I don't think there's a way I'll stop worrying about JET but I've been studying from my Japanese textbook (An Integrated Approach to Intermediate Japanese) to try and keep my mind off of it. Otherwise it's life as usual and just hoping for a response :D

I really think a lot of people's tactics to stop worrying about JET are flawed - reading books about JET, studying Japanese, watching Japanese shows, it'll remind you every 5 seconds.

In my case I'm not even trying. I'm watching Gokusen and looking for alternatives if I don't get into JET.

Speaking of alternatives (and passing the time), has anyone else applied to Interac or AEON or ECC yet or heard back from them? I filled out applications for all three a few days ago, and (hopefully) will be hearing back in a week or so.

Is there any major program I didn't apply to? I think I'll also be looking at jobs on ESL Café and Ohayou Sensei if push comes to shove..

I've not applied, but I'm considering applying to Interac. I've heard they don't pay the airfare and pay less in general though, so I'll have to calculate if I can afford it.

For other programmes, I'm not too sure about Japan but if you're interested you can also apply for similar programmes in other countries. There are also recruiters for jobs outside of programmes. I've heard http://www.footprintsrecruiting.com/ are fairly good from friends using them, but you might want to 'shop around' if you go that route since most the information they have up on their website is for South Korea, even if they claim to do Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam and other countries..

I actually have the perfect amount of panic-inducing work to keep me from obsessing over JET this month. I’m assistant editor for a literary and art review that has to be sent off to the printers by the end of the month. I’m also writing my senior thesis this month which is focused on kabuki. And, in case I don’t get into JET, I’m sending out grad school applications. So, I only obsess about when the interview list will be posted a few times each day versus last month when it was at least few times each hour. (:

In a way while all the work keeps me from obsessing over JET, JET is also my inspiration to get through all the work. It's a nice balance.

One thing I'm doing with my free time is making contingency plans.

In case I do not get into the JET program this year I have backup plans set for Mexico, S.Korea, and China.

If I do not get into JET this year I will reapply and hope for the best next year.

I'm really hoping to get into the JET program though so I can go to Japan, because I don't have as much interest in those other countries.

There are other alternatives to JET. Interac is hiring for Fall 2012 right now.

I didn't know about this before. I was simply going off the information my career counselor has been able to provide me.

This will give me a better chance to do what I've wanted to do for quite a long time.
Thank you.
