Just a bit of youtubery to share with all of you new Aspiring JETs. Not sure if anyone has brought these to your attention but...

The above link has quite a few informative blogs about the JET program and Japan. Theres a lot of Sumo video in there to but if you want to get right into the meat of it click on the JET Programme Vlogs or the Applying to the JET Program playlists listed on there. He's been a JET for about 4.5 years or so and has the information in a bit of an episodic format.

The above link goes to a fellow who is NOT a english teacher in Japan or ever been on the JET program. He does however live in Japan (Tokyo specifically) and has some good informative pieces on Japan (The FYI pieces) and his Life in Tokyo segment can have some real gems and give you the flavor of Japan. I find it to be very entertaining but my sense of humor tends to be fairly twisted.

I hope either of these links help. Maybe I will someday get to getting some of my videos put together for all of you.

I will second the recommendation of watching the myargonauts vlogs on youtube, i watched them last year before I came feeling more prepared for what I was in for,　not everything turned out relevant to my situation but it was extremely useful all the same.

Im thirding myargonauts on youtube, he is both informative and funny, deffinately a good watch. I went through his videos before my interview, helped me calm down and preparing a lot easier

The ideas for learning games that he shows would've been great even for what I did when I was studying abroad in 06. Basically, the university gave me 5000 yen a month to come in one period a week and do what they called the English Chatting Room, which was for anyone else who had a free period who wanted to just get some good experience talking with a native speaker. Of course...they'd be adjusted for college level English...haha. No "This is a pen" for those kids!

Ah! I need to catch up on the newer ones. I haven't watched any of my youtube type things in awhile. I really want to catch up on my Tokyocooney... his ice cream episodes were just hilarious.

Completely off topic... but I am now working on bringing a copy of Rock Band 2 to my apartment. With the guitar and drums all with it. Very curious if it will turn out as good a party game with my fellow JETs as it's predecessor was when I was in Michigan.

I tried guitar hero 3 last time I was in the states. It was awesome! But I couldn't help thinking it would be so much cooler if it was a real guitar and it was teaching you to actually play the chops...

Apple's new garage band seems to be working on something kinda like that. I want to see a mix of that with rock band.

Yeah, getting ilife 09 with the same shipment thats bringing me rockband 2 (only 2 bits in the shipment).

No guitar to hook up with garage band sadly. They have some really nice tutorials for that and a keyboard from what I've read.

Guitar Hero 3 is good. Rock Band 2 is far better though. Aside from the nearly 100 songs in rock band 2 theres over 550 songs released for download.

And I just like the feel of it more. Both are a great time with friends.

If someone was going to go that far they might as well just take all their fashion tips from Grizzly Adams. Now I'm curious as to how the Japanese would react to someone with a ZZ Top beard and lumberjack clothes. They'd probably react to a giant grizzly named Ben easier.

The biggest contributor to it actually is that Japanese people typically don't react. Inside they lose all respect, but never break the "wa", or harmony, and leave the issue unaddressed.

Well, I can envision an exaggerated display of cute affection, and a whole bunch of girls saying "kyaaaa! kawaiiiiiiii!!!!"
