If the name of the course is not listed, I would recommend getting a letter from your study abroad office on official letterhead with all of the relevant information (institution, location, course names, grades received, dates attended, credit received). Your transcript isn't invalid; we just need additional information in order to give you credit for the study abroad.

Hi,

Due to mail delays despite requesting a reference letter, from my Professor who is on sabbatical and not residing in my city currently, I will not be able to receive my reference letter from her till the 25th. Is the Nov 25 deadline final or would it be okay to submit my application a day late? Because it is the weekend most likely it would not be sent out until Monday. My Professor did not read the instructions clearly and was not aware that she could not submit the letter herself, having done so before for other letters (though not related to JET) and having no problems. The letters, signed and sealed, should arrive at my University by Friday.

Sorry,

Steve

Quick question, about how long after we send in our application do we receive our self addressed envelope back with the card? Or is that what they use to let us know if we are granted an interview? (Meaning we would be getting it back sometime in January.)

I got mine within a week of the application arriving in D.C. It might take longer now since there are probably more applications being sent now than in previous weeks. But, I believe you should get it before mid-December. I think the interview notification is either via email or we check a list of Applicant id numbers and see if we are listed on it...

(This information should be correct if you're applying in the US)
You should receive your self-addressed envelope after a couple weeks of your application being received at the JET office. In the envelope will be your ID number. Some time in late January or early February there will be a PDF posted on the JET website with ID numbers of applicants who were granted interviews. If you're granted an interview you'll receive an email about when your interview is scheduled.

I posted my application of the Monday before the Friday deadline and got my confirmation letter back ON the Friday.

My question is when do we know if we've made it through to the interviews? And how do we know when the interviews are?

According to http://www.miami.us.emb-japan.go.jp/en/ ... #Interview (the Miami consulate website):
"By January or February, a file will become available on the JET Program USA website, which will have the ID numbers of those applicants chosen to go on to the interview stage. These ID numbers appear on the upper right-hand corner of the applications after they have been electronically submitted. All applicants should receive confirmation cards with their ID numbers once their applications have been processed (this will be sent to them in the self-addressed, stamped envelope).

The consulate or embassy responsible for the interview location selected by the applicant will then contact him or her to schedule the interview. Interviews take place in mid to late February. The timeline for interviews is very tight, and therefore it might not be possible to reschedule. Interview sites cannot be changed after submitting an application."

The list will become available in late January or early February on http://www.us.emb-japan.go.jp/JET/. It'll be quite a wait, but there's stuff to start preparing, as noted by miami_coordinator here: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=10493&start=15#p94389

Not sure if they are a spammer or not, I don't see any advertisements on their profile or in their sig line. Anything is possible. They may just be someone who just learned about the program recently but missed the deadline by a fair stretch.

That said, the spammers are getting better at what they do, sometimes it takes a few seconds for it to sink in, for example a few days ago, someone was stating that they got confirmed to be a JET within the last few days, that really gave me a 'HUH?' reaction...

This may seem obvious, but where on the website does the list for candidates who passed the first stage and have an interview go? Is it right on the front or is found somewhere else? I'm not sure if I can wait anymore and have been checking the page constantly to no avail.

There will be a link on the front page to a PDF with the numbers on it. It should be pretty obvious.

Hang on a little longer! If you think about it, if they take longer to review your applications, hopefully that means they are really taking their time and scouring them thoroughly. Considering all the work you put into your application, wouldn't you rather have that as compared with someone who just flips through each one, randomly assigns a mark, and does a haphazard job just to be finished earlier? :D

Hello!!

I've recently entered a JET-related essay contest, and wrote a piece about the JET Programme Application Process. There are a bunch of helpful online resources, and I hope you'll want to read my piece as well. (I was a JET in Fukushima-ken from 2008 to 2011. I was also part of the JET paper selection committee. I can't divulge the nitty-gritty details behind the application process, but my article does provide some gentle reminders to help you create a standout application package.)

Don't forget to click the "Facebook LIKE" button! I would really appreciate your support. Read my piece here: http://jetprogram.me/jet-programme-application-process/

Good luck as you prepare your own JET Application. The forms haven't been released yet, but my essay sheds some light on what you can prepare beforehand.

Cheers!
