They did at that.
I had a look and it costs $70-$100 for just a week =/ (remember to take into consideration excess)

Yes, I looked at travel insurance too but it was nearly $800 for 12 months (including the medical side of it) - might just go with home contents in Japan.

See you both tomorrow night!

Travel insurance seems like a waste of money because we already have medical insurance from the day that we arrive in Japan. Why double up? Investigating home & contents would be the best bet.

My life has been condensed to two suitcases and a suit.
I think my bag is too heavy...

Heading into the city early - this tie is choking me!

Packed most of my main luggage last night. Just below 16kg at present, which would be better if I didn't need to factor my Ps3 in. I've got a craptonne of deodorant in there that I can cut back on if need be, however. Always good to keep track of your more expendable items :D

Fitting all these clothes that I'll need for 'the first few days' into a carry on is going to be fun, though :?

Don't worry about them becoming wrinkled. The 24hr Hospitality Centre has irons & ironing boards for you guys to use when you get there.

THIS! X 1000

I started packing today and this is the first time i've truly started to freak out about leaving. So much stuff I want to take, and whilst i've cut down quite a bit, it's still going to be a struggle to fit in all the stuff in my hand luggage case.

we can bring a laptop, hand luggage and check in bag, right?! they dont expect us to put our laptop in the hand luggage bag?

I haven't ever heard someone get told they cannot bring in a backpack/large handbag/laptop bag plus a carry on suitcase, even though officially you are only allowed the one bag. I've done it 8-9 times already and no one cares as long as it isn't crazy big or heavy.

You will at least get to Sydney with 2 bags since that is the limit on domestic, not too sure if thats a good thing or not.

Quick question...

Who did you send your stuff home with? Japan Post?

Just curious because come February, if I decide to not recontract for a third year, I'd like to start sending stuff home bit by bit when the weather gets a bit warmer.

Cheers for the info!

We wary of the sweet, well-meaning, but ultimately heavy last-minute gifts from siblings!

A bit of basic advice that may or may not prove useful: when packing, try to make mental notes of the things that you really don't need. Moving between Australia, England and Korea in the past has taught me a lot about the difference between want and need, and when to decide that it may well be both easier and cheaper to replace certain items. Don't worry about laptops, though - if anything, your laptop bag is a great place for stuffing excess stuff ;)

... unfortunately you can't do this with gifts, as it makes you look a right cold jerk :?

My laptop bag is tiny, so I'm classing my backpack as my laptop bag.

Don't worry. Last year I had my carry-on luggage, a big camera backpack (6kg) AND a big laptop backpack (4kg). Awkward but doable. If the airlines try and witch about it just remind them the laptop (or whatever breakable item you have) is not something that can be checked in due to insurance rules.

i've been sending boxes with japan post using sea/surface mail. it takes two months but it's the cheapest option :)
