Random question but how do we keep our mobile #'s up and running when we're not here. Can you change back to prepay with 2deg? I'm keen to keep my number

Hey, I went to see the Wellington Consulate today and the person said there are 7 alternates left on his list so it is getting quite low.
He said that this doesn't occur till august and later so there is a good chance for alternates to be upgraded this year for New Zealanders.
Also placements are slowly coming out so positions might be opening soon so there is some good news for others still waiting.

Thanks for all the info Hanamiko, very helpful. If I buy Minties I'll have to lock them away so I don't eat them myself! Where did you get placed? How have you found the whole Jet experience?

Pete - I assume so long as you keep your sim card you keep your number. Well, that would be my guess anyway.

Red PowerRanger - That's fantastic to hear so many people got through! I hope those 7 alternates get upgraded, guess they've just got to wait a little longer to see.

As long as there is money on your sim card it should be okay. I'll be getting in touch with 2 degrees shortly to double check myself. Had the same phone number for nearly 8 years now, so I'm attached to it!

I'm going to be getting a few bags of minties to take over for the teachers at the schools methinks.

Come onnnn placements!

Hey I was having a look through 2degrees terms for pay monthly customers, I'll definitly bring my number over to 2deg. Once on Pay monthly you can change to prepay quite easily it seems

3. (b) If you are a Pay Monthly customer who is switching to a Prepay
Account, you can Activate your Prepay Account by calling Customer
Care at any time. The Pay Monthly Terms and Conditions will apply to
the cancellation of your Pay Monthly Account when you switch to a
Prepay Account, and you will continue to be liable for any Charges due
in accordance with the Pay Monthly Terms and Conditions in respect of
your Pay Monthly Account.

and then when on prepay you can do the below

7. (b) If requested by you, Customer Care can suspend your Prepay Account
preventing further Services from being accessed using your SIM card
or further Charges being deducted from your Prepay Account. You
can also suspend your Prepay Account through Your 2degrees. Once
your Prepay Account, is suspended your Mobile Phone and SIM card
will not be able to be used to access the Services until such time as
you contact Customer Care and request that the suspension is
removed or you un-suspend your account through Your 2degrees.

not forgetting

7. (d) During any suspension of your Prepay Account this Agreement and
any applicable Plan and Value Pack specific terms and conditions will
continue to apply to you (including the expiry of any Plan or Value Pack
benefits)

My excitement each day is limited to the brief moments when I pass the letterbox or open the front door, when in reality the E-mail will arrive first. At least I hope it will, I'm going away for a week.

Well I've heard the 3rd being the absolute latest we'll hear...so that's within 9 days now.

I'm hoping we hear by the end of this week, as I really need to resign from my job so want it 100% confirmed I'm going

I'm worried I'm going to be that 1-2% that can't get a placement, so don't want to be up the creek minus a paddle!

i totally understand cytrix. i'm in the same position. my boss already knows i'm planning to leave and they need to find a replacement for me and train them up (i'm in a small team of 4, so once i'm gone they're down to 3, and then another person is going on holiday so they're down to 2 people, eek) but they can't officially advertise for someone new until i've resigned...which i won't do until i get my placement. they're such nice people so it makes me feel bad i'm leaving them hanging

Hey guys,
This was exactly my situation, I'm the team leader in a small team of 4 and they cannot advertise for the role unless I resign. So I did, clarified my last day, and everyone knows i'm going.

I have to give one months notice, and my last day of work is the 24th of June. The reason I'm leaving in June not July is that my partner and I are going on an awesome holiday to Thailand for a month (leaving on 30/06 until the 25/07). This allows me to goto the Q&A evening in AKL on 18/06 beforehand too.

The thing is if I am in the unfortunate 1-2% my partner and I are still going to Japan! She is from Okinawa and I might just chill out there for a year and then reapply for JET next year if it all turns to custard. Why not aye

Hey,
I sent an email to the consulate requesting confirmation of that date (as i'd love to make it and im off to thailand) and the responded 18/06 is when it will be. I haven't received any official confirmation regarding it too, I assume it will come through with our placement details. Here's a quick snippet of my email correspondence;

"The Q&A is definitely confirmed for June 18, but I am afraid it is not in the evening. It runs from 9 to 5 with a break for lunch, and there is usually an optional dinner in the evening.

I am afraid I don’t have any further information regarding the placements. All we know is that we will receive them sometime in May, but expect that it could be later in May as the interview results were delayed by a week or so too. Please be assured that I will send them out as soon as we receive them."

*successfully de-stresses ja9* :D
