I also think that we will each have compulsory orientation/send-offs to attend at the consulates we applied through on the night of the 23rd.

Thanks. That's what I thought. Buying a ticket for my partner to travel to Japan and want to leave on the same day.

In the mail or via the phone? Haven't called but haven't received a letter yet either, wondering whether or not they're sending out shortlisted results priority and then rejections. If you received a letter i guess i know my fate.

Don't give up hope just yet, mine was by mail.... however I am in Brisbane Metro and from what I can tell they were only posted yesterday, so it just may not have reached you yet. I haven't seen very many people on here confirming either way, only a few from Brisbane and some of those who rang the Melbourne consulate.

Where did you interview?

Hey guys!

I've been a lurker on these boards ever since I applied for the 2011 JET Program. I got my letter today from the Brissy consulate informing me that I've been shortlisted!

I originally applied as a CIR but they must've thought I'd make a better teacher. :D

Oceanman, please don't give up hope. I got a phone call because I am a May dispatch (which is definitely not normal as we all know!), and I assumed that Melbourne results were out for July as well. Melissa is fabulous, so I am sure she is working hard on getting your letters out. I think we were all meant to hear by mail.

I got my letter from the Melbourne Consulate-General this morning - came in a big white A4 envelope. I'm an Alternate CIR.
Must admit I have mixed feelings about that.

The letter says "You will be informed as to whether a position on the short-list has become available by the second week of December"... I'm not sure I can wait that long! Guess the best thing to do is just accept the alternate position for now, and see if anything else pops up in the next couple of months...

Nerves were a little jumpy when I saw that the letter still didn't arrive with the mail today. I finally bit the bullet and got into contact with Susie from the Brisbane Consulate. I am shortlisted and so incredibly happy! Congratulations to everyone else, ganbatte for the alternates, and for those that didn't make it, please try again next year and/or look into the myriad other avenues available to you. All the best!

Also! Brisbane applicants, I would like to let you know that I will be out tonight at the Brisbane Japanese Culture and Language Meetup (you may have heard of it) group. It is from 6.30pm at the Transcontinental Hotel which is located next to Tinbilly Travelers at the end of George St and opposite the Roma Transit Centre. It is a weekly meetup that I go to fairly regularly, and I think that it would be a great opportunity to get to know you guys. You guys should try to make it tonight or a Thursday night in the near future!

Cheers, Daniel.

Hi Tanta! Congratulations on being an alternate :D

When I spoke to Melissa the other day she said that there were a number of alternates compared to very few shortlists for the CIR position this year from Melbourne/Hobart/Adelaide, but she seemed hopeful that more positions would open up. So hopefully you won't have to wait until December (most seem to be upgraded by departure, or at least that's my understanding, anyway). All the best!!

Oh, here comes the postman! Hope he finally brings my letter!!

Congrats SatelliteAria, and thanks dcmon! :)

This is my second year applying so to be honest I am a little frustrated... but in the end what can you do? Just keep hoping for the best, and in the meantime come up with a killer Plan B...

It's been said, but thats an absolutely amazing attitude you have, keep it up! In many way I think the alternate list is harder than being flat out rejected, keep up hope, but if another amazing opportunity comes up don't let it pass you by either. dcmon has it the way I see it as well, there will be many people pulling out before the departure date, and in my estimation, just after as well!

Congratulations regardless and keep up hope!
