Does anyone know where to get a TB test in Melbourne?
Can't wait to meet you all at the various orientations!!
My placement requests were:
1) Onomichi in Hiroshima Prefecture
2) Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture
3) Nara Prefecture
Definitely crossing my fingers still for Onomichi, it looks so beautiful on wikipedia (lol).

Yes! She's really nice. I was scared to ring up the consulate a couple of weeks ago, having heard stories about US consulates biting heads off of people ringing up, then sending out emails telling people not to ring etc, but Melissa was nice and understanding.

And don't give up hope Katie! From what I've heard in the past, and people talking here, a lot of shortlisted people may not accept!

After about 2 hours of deliberating, I finally decided to call Melissa (who, as everybody has said, is lovely and helpful).

Lucky me, I've been shortlisted as a CIR (Melbourne).

Congratulations to all the others who've been accepted and condolences to those who didn't make it.

To the alternates, congratulations and condolonces, I hope positions open up for you soon.

And to those still waiting - it is hell, but it's nearly over. Good luck everyone!

Do we need to do the TB test? I thought it was just the X-Ray and Certificate of Health?

What code did you guys put down for the AFP check? Is it 35 or 30?

Do we really need an AFP National Police Check? Im confused as to what the difference between an AFP NPC and a standard run of the mill National Police Check is.

(Just asked a friend who is a current JET, and she just got a standard Police Check from SAPOL (could be replaced with whatever standard police force is present in your state :P) so I assume the same is still valid)

To any Brisbane applicants, I rang the consulate at around 4pm yesterday (Tuesday) and they informed me that the letters had been sent out, but had missed the post for that day, meaning we can all expect our results in the mail by Thursday.

Is South Africa also waiting for snail mail?? I would say that you have nothing to lose by calling the consulate unless they explicitly told you not to. Call me old fashioned, but I kinda dig the letter method, there is nothing more romantic and satisfying than getting the news this way. Waiting until Thursday, pffft, take heart everyone, you have already been waiting since the end of November, what's a piddly day/day and a half gonna matter?

Happy thoughts and ganbatte!

The certificate of health states: "Results of a tuberculosis test must be provided if the necessary information [X-Ray results] is not completed below." I don't have the time to visit a doctor for a referral for an X-Ray, then return to the doctor with the results to have the certificate completed, so I am opting for the TB test.

Btw you can get a TB test done at a travel doctor (http://www.traveldoctor.com.au/clinics.html).

I contacted the Perth consulate about the police check and was told:

"You will also need a National Police Certificate for Australia – this is issued by the WA Police for residents of WA so I assume you will need one issued by Victorian Police. At any rate, the National Police Certificate is, as the name suggests, a nationwide check. For more information take a look at the following link. http://www.police.wa.gov.au/Ourservices ... fault.aspx At the bottom it states that interstate applicants must apply to their respective police jurisdiction."

Obviously this information is in regards to a Perth applicant currently living in Victoria, but it should answer the AFP vs state NPC question.

Sorry for the long post! I am trying to make up for all of the information I gleaned off these forums when I was a lurker.

Thanks! The VicPol one is cheaper and quicker as well.

Does anyone know with the departure...do we leave Melbourne/Australia on the 23rd and arrive on the 24th of July, or do we depart and arrive on the 24th of July?

My impression is that we leave Australia on the 24th. According to the List of Designated Airports document Tokyo orientation starts on the 25th. I also think that we will each have compulsory orientation/send-offs to attend at the consulates we applied through on the night of the 23rd.
