Concerning the English Note

An ALT in Akita was asked to translate the lesson/unit summaries for the Teachers' English Notebook series Guide.

I've found it helpful as I have been asked to present a lot of these topics over the last few months.

Have you read through them and made sure they are accurate? If so, would you mind if I swiped them for Englipedia? I would give credit where credit is due.

Hey Patrick,

I will look further into your question later this week. The BOE that had the JET do the translation has been pretty serious about Elementary English for the last 4 years. I am out of the office for the next few days but I will call them when I get back on Friday.

I did a bit more research into the topic Patrick, and I might actually not recommend these translations for a site like yours.

It turns out this is only a translation of the opening summaries of each lesson and unit. The actual manual is much more thorough.

I personally think this summary is good for giving someone who doesn't read Japanese very well, a decent idea of the general goals that MEXT has for these texts.

Esstentially these books are meant to stress/foster 'intercultural understanding' and 'communicative skills'.

In other words students are to use English as a tool for communication and not as a way to gain literacy.

Thanks for getting back to me on that, Dan. And, thanks for your comments.

I'm still battling with the idea of creating a Eigo Noto pages for Englipedia because I would almost feel like a sellout cuz' I don't agree with these textbooks. But, people have been emailing about it, so I figured I'd do some ground research, just in case I do go ahead with such a project, I can hit the ground running.

Hopefully, Eigo Noto peeps will have the foresight to translate the final edition of these books...hopefully.
