I'm not sure what the technical name for little nicknames below our usernames but I was wondering if there was any way to turn it off?

Mine says 'legend' and I really don't people thinking I inputed that nickname.

They're forum ranks. Virtually every forum on the internet these days has them. They're based on how many posts you have made.

I don't believe there is any way to turn them off (and there is sadly no way to turn avatars off either, meaning they always pop up making it seem like I'm goofing off at work... >.<).

But anyone who has a bit of experience using an internet forums or who looks around for a bit at what is says for other names should realize a pattern, and I sincerely doubt anyone is thinking you are an arrogant jerk or something and naming yourself a "legend". (If they are, I get to be a super jerk for being "legend 2.0". Whee.) It's just a way to add a bit more goofy fun into the forums like avatars.

The ranks are like Ben said by post number, as with many current forums. I could just change it so that all users were "user", and promote the forums as a stiff-collar and necktie discussion board. But our hope was that since this site is "heavily-moderated" that people would still realize they can let their hair down and ask any question they may have without ridicule, rather than think they have to impress the moderators with their poignant inquisitiveness.

I sympathize with the distastefulness this can invite however, as a poster's worth should be measured by the quality of their posts rather than the number of "bump" and "wUrd-up dood" responses any person can make.

After reading that last comment, please do me the grace of overlooking the number of posts I myself have made.

And in case you were wondering, no, you cannot achieve "admin" by exceeding a certain number of posts.
