Nothing yet. :< We're all just sitting at home refreshing out phones/emails in the hopes that we'll receive our placements today. lol The weekend was nice because I knew I wouldn't be hearing anything those days, so I didn't bother worrying/wondering if I would get anything. Now that the week has started up again, I'm twiddling my thumbs in anticipation.

Just wanted to say it looks like we have about 170ish people on the map so far (not sure how it counts markers that were deleted, but the blank one I made said 178 minus the examples). I'm curious just how many people are heading over this year. I didn't compare numbers the past couple years to see if it was fluctuating or not.

Also, seems more consulates are getting placements in today! Singapore and a couple people from LA?! *crosses fingers*
Good luck guys! Hope you get it today/soon and get your requests :3 <3

Probably only 10% or so of actual shortlisted participants are on the map so far.

In 2010 there were 1,660 new first years out of 4,334 total. In 2011 there were 4,330 total people on JET (no details about the number of first years but probably no less than 1,500).

We can assume that those of us with a forum presence are very much in the minority.

I organized the map to count the stats, and this is what I got:

No Preference: 25
Had Preference, Didn't Get It: 81
Third Choice: 13
Second Choice: 12
First Choice: 36

Not that I don't mind Facebook creeping every last person here, but can people PLEASE remove their real names from the map? Forum names are usually enough.

This map has been spread to all forms of social media, or just about, so half of the people on that map don't even post here.

And anyway, I think it's just fine if they personally decide to use their real names. It doesn't really affect anyone else, so no harm done 8)

Sadly, I am fairly certain no one gets placed in Tokyo (city, anyway). The people who do get placed in Tokyo prefecture end up being on the outlying islands.

So this year you had a 43% chance of getting one of your requests it seemed.

I always partially regretted not putting a preference down but I'm within 2 hours of the 3 I'd likely have requested so there's a good chance I'm as close as I was gonna be anyway...

I feel completely stupid... I can't work out how to put my placement marker on the map. Just spent ages trying to do it, but it's not working. Either there's something wrong with my computer, or I'm a massive herp derp.

Did you click EDIT at the top of the list (with the examples, etc.)? After that, you should have a couple new buttons pop up in the map window itself, one will look like the marker and you just click on it and then click where you're placed (if it's not click > click, try dragging, I forget right now). Then you can type your stuff in. :)

It also depends on your google account... my university uses google for their student emails, yet we can't use the map function. So I just log into another one of my google accounts to edit the map.

IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING, DON'T TOUCH THE MAP.

Clicking away, moving people's pins, replacing people's information on their pins, screwing around with the example pins and all that other annoying stuff because you don't know what you're doing screws up the map. Several of us everyday are constantly cleaning up the map from mistakes. It's annoying to constantly see the same things go on time and time again. If you don't know what you're doing, DON'T TOUCH THE MAP. Ask someone on how to add your pin onto the thing. Just don't do ANYTHING.

And also, when you add your pin, properly fill it out. People move pins out into the ocean for whatever reason and the then pin doesn't have any information and we don't know where to put that pin back.

Just... please work with us here with this map.

For others who will probably be as confused as I was: The map apparently has too many pins now, so it has started a second page. If you are not seeing the pin you placed recently, that is what happened. Scroll down to the bottom of the name list and click "next page." Right now there is a small group of us hanging out on map 2.
