I wonder how it will go. It's at the midpoint between all my choices (Niigata-shi, Takasaki-shi and Shiga-ken), which is kind of surprising (Niigata is the most accessible city though).

Hi Yiuel! I'm Bex and am going to Toyama, too (mystery city, lol). Seems like the JETs there are pretty close-knit - they say they always get together on the weekends and do things together. Be seeing you soon~

Sorry if this has already been asked, but Ive been reading so many posts I cant remember if this question was asked this year or I read it from a previous year.

Now that we (well most of us) have been given our placements, about how long do you expect before we are contacted by our CO to accept the position?

I was told (forgot who said, maybe my coordinator) that not saying anything is considered accepting the placement.

And then I think I got my terms and conditions in early July, but that was in 2008 when things were a bit faster. Or maybe it was the end of June? Anyway! The BoE wanted it sent back signed right away or at our prefectural orientation at the latest (mid-August).

I've been placed in Sendai-shi, in Miyagi-ken. It's not what I requested (Hokkaido, Gunma, Nagano prefectures), but sounds awesome nonetheless. I think I got a city in part because I don't really drive.

I saw that another user, Kuro Usagi was also placed in Sendai-shi. I'm from Vancouver, Canada, in Group B. What group are you in? If you're in Group B too, we'll probably meet at Tokyo Orientation.

Anyone else going to Miyagi-ken?

Yay! I fellow Sendai newbie! I'm in Group A (Melbourne consulate, Australia) so sadly we'll miss eachother But hopefully we'll get a chance to meet once we're all there! Everyone has been super welcoming!!

Can't wait to hear from others coming to Sendai-shi and Miyagi-ken ^o^

Montreal Jet here. I got placed in Kesennuma-miyagi. It's was destroyed by the tsunami last year, and all i can find on youtube is videos of devastation. All the information i found prior to the tsunami is irrelevant because everything pretty much changed. Any JET currently living there?

I would try googling the city name with 2012 tacked on. That's what I did and I'm getting a better idea of how it is now, not last year.
Including a wonderful picture of ES students, possibly your future students!!!, dancing in strawberry costumes and being PRECIOUS!

Also I'm following this girl named Estelle on Facebook running a charity out of Funakoshi, a small town wiped out by the tsunami. She might be able to give you some input and advice .

Haha, yeah definitely!!! It's good to know that there's at least one other newbie that'll be relatively close by! Looks like I'm going to have to get a car too, so that could make travel easier!! I totally want to go to the Chiba Boso no Mura museum and try on samurai armor too...!!

Ive been talking to someone who is near my city and she has a car, she also mentioned that two of the three people in my city have cars too, so ill probably be looking into getting one. I just want to know the process and everything first haha. But hey, you can be my Tokyo buddy too. I never been and would like to visit sometime, but going alone would be lame, plus we are both relatively close.. plus with someone else im less likely to get lost. Heck yes to the museum sometime if you want company!

Yeah, haha, let's be friends!! Have you been to Japan before? I must admit I've forgotten if you said...I'd say I'm pretty familiar with Tokyo, and it's great! There's still a lot there I haven't seen (and a lot of places to revisit!) but I agree, so much better to go with others. I still get lost sometimes in Shijuku station though, haha!
Also...the car process worries me a bit too, but it sounds like we'll have plenty of people to ask about it and we can compare notes too if we both end up getting one. I've never owned a car in the US either!!

No, I have never been to Japan before so this will be fun! I have been studying Japanese for the last 5 years, so hopefully I can make it. Please... take me to Tokyo... lol

Hey guys now that placements are out and all, I was just wondering if anyone has some idea when the upgraded Alternates will find out where we are going ? I was upgraded about a week and a half after the shortlist came out and was wondering does that mean information is on the way about where i'll be headed, or is there a much longer wait on the way. Not complaining so grateful for the upgrade just curious, uber excited and want to be able to tell people where abouts I am going so I don't hear "oh your leaving in about two months, where were you placed?" .... ummm!!
