Does anyone familiar with the area (I've only ever driven through town) have anything I should know about the place (other than to pack a jacket and prepare to get tired of namahage-related stuff long before New Year's)?

I'll be in Kosaka, Akita!

I got Takayama-Shi, Gifu-Ken!

I used to live in Gifu-Shi... so I'm having all these crazy mixed-emotions about being placed so close to where I used to live. It will definitely be surreal to go back to my old stomping grounds (it's been 8 years!!). Anyone else been placed in/near where they used to live/visit?

Looks like we'll be neighbors! I'll have to PM you and add you to facebook. Are you also Group B departure??

Nice! Not too close but in range (when I went it took a morning's drive from Akita City, which is a further hour from Oga). Make sure to hit up the Korakukan kabuki theater in town while you're there!

Where did you get?!

I'm in Kochi-ken on Shikoku. I don't know much about it but it looks amazing and isn't too terribly far from Kobe/Osaka if I want to travel to a larger urban area!

Welcome to Kochi. I'm over on the west side of the prefecture in Shimanto City. Kochi maybe a bit isolated from the rest of the country (unless you get placed on the east side) but It's very beautiful. The locals are awesome and there is a great JET community here.

I've been placed in Sendai-shi, in Miyagi-ken. It's not what I requested (Hokkaido, Gunma, Nagano prefectures), but sounds awesome nonetheless. I think I got a city in part because I don't really drive.

I saw that another user, Kuro Usagi was also placed in Sendai-shi. I'm from Vancouver, Canada, in Group B. What group are you in? If you're in Group B too, we'll probably meet at Tokyo Orientation.

Anyone else going to Miyagi-ken?

Hey, I've been placed in Yurihonjo, Akita, not toooo far away. Akita was very nearly one of my requests so I'm pretty happy :D
We might be a smaller group of incoming JETs because I know at least for my city there were 5 early departures in April-May.

Toronto JET here. I am accepted as a prefectural ALT in Hokkaido! Just what I was hoping for :D I am still unsure of what a prefectural ALT is but from what I understand, I will be teaching in high school? In any case, I'm very excited!

Sorry if this has already been asked, but Ive been reading so many posts I cant remember if this question was asked this year or I read it from a previous year.

Now that we (well most of us) have been given our placements, about how long do you expect before we are contacted by our CO to accept the position?

This varies from placement to placement as some will have the predecessor ALT do it, or your new supervisor, other's are arranged by the prefectural board of education and might take a bit of time... it's really all over the map.
