girlfriend... if you like nature.. you are the luckiest JET ever. I live about 1.5 hours away but you are freaking near everything beautiful! Aso, Yufuin (best onsen ever), Takachiho isn't that far away.. and getting to Miyazaki-ken isn't that inconvenient for you (the coast from Usuki south is fantastic). Congrats!

Hello,

I am a NYCJET and my placement is in Toyama. I lived in Japan as a student for a year and I was in Saitama Prefecture. I loved it and I can't wait to get back. I never visted the West side of Japan so I am really excited to see the new area. From the pictures on google, and what I found online from other JETs I am really really excited. :D

I haven't looked through all the pages on this topic but is anyone else in Toyama or a current JET in Toyama that I could talk to more?

Hi everyone! Chicago consulate just told me I'm going to be in *drum roll* ----

Hiroshima prefecture in Sera-cho (世羅町) - in other words, amazing and in middle of nowhere. I'm super duper excited! Can't wait to meet everyone! Anyone else heading out to Hiroshima-ken?

And: those firefly squid are stunning! But I find the monkeys are intimidating haha

Looks like we're at least somewhat near each other! I'm in Asahi in Chiba :D I think I saw you posting in the Chiba-ken regional board too...

I am totally thinking about learning to surf now too...that'd be awesome!

Sarahnicole...I will be in Toyama-ken as well!! I cannot WAIT for the winter and all the potential snowboarding I am planning on doing!

Hey Dakota! I'm Amy, also from Chicago, and it looks like we'll be in the same area - I'm prefectural, so I have no idea what town or city I'll be in yet, but I'm definitely in Hiroshima-ken! I think I saw you posting in the regional boards, too. Excited to meet you at orientation or beforehand in Chicago!

arrrrgggg Asahi is like 20 minutes from where my fiance's family lives...I just bought my glasses there in March lol.

Its a small town, closest AEON mall is gonna be like 45 minutes drive in either direction. Tokyo will be ~2.5 hours away by train (slow local trains). You should be ok there! Its actually the placement I was most hoping to get.

No way!! That's crazy, haha, such a small world! Thanks for the info, too. I'm dying to hear from my predecessor now (assuming I have one)!
I checked hyperdia too...glad I'm at least this close to Tokyo! I love Tokyo (studied there for a year) and maybe my host family can come for a visit! Sounds like I'm going to need a car :P Told my mom that and, well, she's far from pleased and is already trying to convince me it should be a last resort! Sheesh, haha.

If you want to see most of Chiba you will absolutely require a car. Living in Asahi will be difficult if you don't own one. Driving will not be a problem. Its a single main road for miles and miles lol and the population is tiny so traffic is pretty non-existent. I drove in that area for the entire time I was there and never had an issue.

I was placed in Kumatori-cho (Osaka Prefecture)... sort of my 2nd/3rd choice! I haven't been able to find out too much about this town online, but the location seems great--SUPER close to Kansai International Airport! Anyone else placed in Osaka Prefecture or have information on Kumatori?? I'd love to know more details about my placement. :)

Hey everyone! I got placed in Shimane-ken, in a coastal city called Yasugi. 2nd least populated prefecture behind Tottori, which is right next door haha. Anyone else in Shimane-ken right now/going there? I had no idea where Shimane even was but the more I read about it, the more I think I'll like it!
