Yaaaaay Boston-ers! I can't wait to meet you at the pre-departure orientation, too!!

I'm so excited!!! I'm pretty sure there's only 3 of us on here right now that are from Boston and are upgraded ALTs - we should all totally get together! :o

nope sorry... it did seem like kind of a lot, though. as a completely random guess, maybe 40? don't treat that as a reliable number at all, though...

Thanks anyway! :D

Hey any American woman with a family request Fukui? Because if so you're coming to my town! :) Sadly I only have gender, location, and the first name of the other JET coming to my town. We will be getting emails and contact information at the end of May. I hope you all get your placements soon! I know I'll be contacting my successor immediately.

Are posts like this kosher? I keep reading that current JETs should be pretty hush hush about this sorta info until the right time. Not that it pertains to me much, but the coordinators probably pull their hair out every time a post like this pops up.

Well my BoE told me it's ok. If our BoE's say it's ok to post about it then it's cool. My BoE is super relaxed :) no worries but yeah others that are posting should have the permission of their BoE. I know some do already.

Also every prefecture is different in the time they tell people their placements. You might find out your prefecture soon, but not which city till later (that's what they do here). I'm with a smaller BoE so last year my predecessor contacted me a couple weeks before official placements. ESID but yeah coordinators are careful because people have been known to turn down spots last minute. Apparently the people with my BoE accepted the ALT position.

Ahh i see. Do you find your prefecture/city likes a particular brand of ALT (gender specific, nationality, etc)?

Actually my prefecture has to be one of the most diverse I think around Japan. They absolutely love the JET Program, and were one of the first prefectures to request JETs when the program first started. Therefore it goes without saying there are many countries here. From Finland to Barbados, everyone has an equal chance pretty much. We even have one of two (I believe) CIRs from Israel. Did you request Fukui or Kansai? Fukui is an amazing place to work and has a very close and active ALT community. :)

Nope, I requested Kanto and Kyushu because of relations with those two areas.

I cant imagine it being "taboo" or anything. I mean just look at many people applied. There's no way someone is going to figure out "a male from California" is pertaining to them specifically. But that's just my thoughts on it...
