AH, that doesn't sound as bad as I thought^^

Yeah :) I never exceed the 6-7 classes a day the biggest issue is the driving between places eats up free time.
Otherwise I love it but I'm really busy outside of work at the moment so one or two desk days might be nice.

As far as I am aware, current JETs from ANY prefecture should NOT be contacting their successors before May 31st (this date may differ). Please do NOT contact them until your CO says it is ok. Trouble - what ignoring this causes. And you should certainly not do it on a forum with a name. In future, please be more careful bandying around names. Try for university, degree, or something with country.

That is so admirable!!! Amazing actually. I'm impressed that you do so much - I like being busy; but that's just...wow. :D

Gah - that'd be fantastic - Hokkaido was my 2nd choice only because I didn't want to seem so apt to want it as badly as I do!! The JET that was at the interview location was placed in Hokkaido and he and I had a great conversation before my interview!!! I want Hokkaido so very badly

Just wondering, do you get paid for your time doing eikaiwa or tutoring? Or is that something you are "volunteering" to do?

It's part of my job. The clubs, eikaiwa and tutoring/helping all happen at work so I get paid for them in the sense that we get a salary not a by the hour paycheck. I do volunteer in a way as aome of it is in addition to my regular teaching hours but that's pretty normal for JETS.

So is it safe to assume we won't know until the 31st? I think they can't tell us until the COs receive our reply forms anyways.

No, because what I said was after the 31st, after the COs have contacted their AETs. So you will hear by the 31st I expect. You're right, you will not hear until the COs have reply forms (but an inside secret - my BoE knowd who's coming already so...)

You guys have nothing on the waiting we did last year. Also - welcome to the JET programme. All it IS is waiting.

As per the JET rules - you are not allowed to be paid money for anything other than the job you do - the wage you recieve from your CO is IT. You are permitted to do work in exchange for Japanese lessons, food, social things, but money crossing hands is a BIG NO NO, and you could get in to a lot of trouble for it. I do a lot of extra stuff, and so my Japanese friends help me with things like arranging tea ceremony classes, having me round for lunch, helping with my mystery post etc. You'll probably find you'd do this stuff for free anyway, because it's nice just being involved in a community!

My understanding is:
Yes, BoE's should have already received information on new JETs (or, at least, they have in my prefecture).
New JETs should receive notice from consulates soon, or at least before the 31st.
Following that, reply forms are due.
Once the reply forms have been received by the BoE and provided that it is after the 31st, contact can be made.
I could be mistaken, however.

We've got around twenty new JETs coming to Shimane this year, so some of you best prefer yourself for the adventure/rabbit hole that is rural Japan!

I totally forgot that reply forms came after hearing from the CO. WHOOPS.

But other than that, yes, agreed on the "by May 31st" -ness, what my supervisor said as well, for what it counts.
