Merkypie: People could be referring to "Alternate Short-list" when they really mean Alternates who were upgraded to the shortlist...though, I'm not sure about that.

Saying alternate shortlist is probably just saying you got upgraded (my guess anyway).

alternate shortlist is just the name for alternate, ie my original notification letter from a month ago:

This letter is to inform you that you have been selected as an ALTERNATE ALT Short-List candidate for this year's JET Program.

So sad to see this thread so dead on weekend..I guess everyone is waiting for Monday :D Hwaiting guys! (Totally not Japanese, my bad).

How's the Toronto emo club doing?
Has anyone else adopted the upgrade rain dance (I have)?
Is anyone here going to Anime North? (I asked a while back if there were any other cosplayers on these forums but I haven't found any..:( )

PS: Anyone play SWTOR? Anyone excited for Diablo 3!? Oh the potential distractions.

LOL Toronto emo club.....ya I'd say that's what I feel like. Seems like the chances of an upgrade are super slim in Toronto.
Are you going to the orientations/sessions? I want to and I probably will, but going as an alternate sucks.

I don't cosplay but I love costume making, lol that's as close as I get to that. I made Japanese armour for a major final assignment at school. It was pretty awesome.

Yeah I'm going to most of the sessions..just in case... It will suck going as an alternate...especially since I'll be going with my boyfriend who is on the shortlist :( But, you know, maybe it'll be different by then (hopefully).

Armour is a challenge I have yet to tackle lol. So hard!

I'm planning to go to the orientations/sessions. Yes, it will prob be not so fun being one of, if not, the only alternate in the room, but I think there will still be a lot of support for us from the shortlisters and JET staff. :)

Yes, I am a cosplayer...XD. I am going to AN, hopefully going to be a volunteer as well. I made some pretty sweet armour for my TP Zelda costume a few years ago :3.

Are we allowed to go to the orientation sessions in June/July? I saw some people specifically got emails form their consulate telling them they should go but I've never received anything like that.

Also, am I really the only Detroit person on here as an alternate? *sad face* now I feel REALLY alone lol

It seems like only Toronto sent out the orientation emails so far?

@MapleVic Sweet another cosplayer! Who are you going as this year? We should meet up at AN and sulk in a dark corner together for a short period of time.

I like this plan lol *visualizes Tamaki-senpai in Ouran HIgh School Host Club . I'm going to wear my No Face one day, maybe my Princess Peach on another...not sure what I'm wearing each day (waiting to see if/when I'm volunteering so I can work around that). How about yourself?

Any other peeps out there going to AN?

Ah No Face, perfect for sulking! Princess Peach is adorable. I'm going as Cardcaptor Sakura from the Vol. 6 manga cover and some fan art version of Miku which I can't attach a name to because one does not exist lol. My friend and I did Sakura and Kero last year also and got attacked for pictures so often we couldn't even have a conversation lol. It was very expected, so naturally we're doing it again 8)

And yeah, if anyone else is coming to AN come sulk with us! (No shortlisters allowed) (Kidding) (...Not really)

*googles CCS Manga 6
Kawaii!

I'm hoping to do Sakura's outfit from the anime's second opening (the gold and white one) at some point. Miku is pretty awesome too! Unfortunately I'm not making any new costumes for this year's AN since I'm trying to save up the recommended starting funds (you know, just in case). Luckily I haven't been since 2009 so I have a few costumes I've worn only for Halloweens.

OMG, aboultzi, if you get shortlisted you must make me Cosplay costumes- in exchange for Russian lessons of course, and/or my theatre knowledge :)

I would have possible gone to Vancouver's Anime Revolution this year, since it's been a while, but with Japan, it's a no go :( When is Anime North, just out of curiosity?

I have cosplayed as characters from Vampire Knight, Sailor Moon, Gundam Seed, Weiss Kreuz, Visions of Escaflowne but my current dream is to do Code Geass at some point!

Boston, at least, hasn't heard anything about orientation, either - we've only gotten info about required paperwork that was due immediately. Nothing about passports, even, yet, so it's entirely possible that you'll hear from your coordinators in the future. I think I've only actually seen people from 1 or 2 different consulates mention that they've heard about their orientations yet, so don't despair.

I also know that Miami_Coordinator said that each coordinator decides how to include alternates differently. It may be that your coordinators haven't let you know about orientations because they don't want you to feel left out.

As for being the only Detroit alt on the forums: there were only 3 from Boston that actually posted, and there are almost certainly lurkers, but I think Detroit is one of the smaller consulates. Think of it this way: the fewer Alternates there are at your consulate, the better the odds that you'll be upgraded!
