Hi, I'm an aussie, but I'm sure you'll forgive me  . I have to get a UK police check as well, as I lived there for more than a year in the past five years.

I submitted my SAR to ACRO last month. I just rang up the office, and I was amazed at how helpful they were. I was told that my application was received on 24 April, its now up to Day 10, applications are currently taking around 25 days, and I should feel free to call back to find out when it has been posted. Nice one!

Surely any Australian's going to come up with a criminal record on the UK database - isn't that why we sent you off in the first place?

Deadline day :)

So i'm now filled with TB,I had a super lovely nurse this morning and now i just have to wait until friday to get my results.

Then they'll get sent to my Dr within about a week so he can fill my results out on there, finally feel like i'm getting somewhere :) About time!
How many people have actually got everything already sent back then? I think I may well be nearing the deadline at the rate my Dr's are going.

Had my mantoux test and initially struggled getting my head around the "if the test is positive you're ok" and realised it was an immunisation screening rather than a test to see if you have TB or not.. doh.

Managed to get a little discount as I work within a hospital. Also had an arsey conversation with the head doc at my GP practice, who said basically my medical check fee was non negotiable as thats their rate. Looks like my bday money is getting spent on all this medical business!!

I received an email saying they'd received my police report request on the 23rd April, they have to have replied in 40 days.. which means i hope to have something back latest early June. Paper work is doing my head in!

I'm so shocked that lots of people's GPs are being difficult and charging a lot for all of these medical necessities. I know we all expected to be paying to have the full medical done and the TB test/x-ray but i guess it really does depend how nice a person the individual doctor is...

My GP had worked abroad when he was younger and said he remembered having to do all of this. Instead of charging me the usual £20 for my Physician Statement he requested i donate £10 to an animal charity. (This isn't a lie, this is genuinely how nice my doctor is) and he said i had a wheezy cough when referring me for my x-ray so that i wouldn't have to pay for it, as i've never yet used any NHS services because i've never been ill/had surgery etc. I think i'm going to propose to him.. (i'm not) :D

Still going to be a week until results though, and still waiting on my Police Reply so wouldn't worry about it yet, everyone's in the same position i think.

Wait... does that mean that JET doesn't accept the Mantoux test to show that you don't have TB? I'm panicking now, because that's what I had done, and it took me so long just to get one. If I've done it wrong, I may never get another TB test!

From Wikipedia:
The results of this test must be interpreted carefully. The person's medical risk factors determine at which increment (5 mm, 10 mm, or 15 mm) of induration the result is considered positive.[3] A positive result indicates TB exposure.

So you want it to be negative. You have a 50% chance of a false positive if you've had a BCG.

I discussed the options with my doctor and decided an x-ray might be better as it has the last word on the matter :) your doctor would probably refer you ON THE DAY and it takes a week for results to get back to the doctor's surgery so it's not too late if anyone is having concerns about their TB result not being right/or not being enough.

Im getting all confused now with this Mantoux, and maybe the doc today told me the wrong thing which is really unhelpful!

nhs website says this about it though

"Mantoux test
The Mantoux test is a widely used test for latent TB. It involves injecting a substance called PPD tuberculin into the skin of your forearm.
If you have a latent TB infection, your skin will be sensitive to PPD tuberculin and a hard red bump will develop at the site of the injection, usually within 48 to 72 hours of having the test. If you have a very strong skin reaction, you may need to have a chest X-ray to confirm whether you have an active TB infection.
If you do not have a latent infection, your skin will not react to the Mantoux test. However, as TB can take some time to develop, you may need to be screened again within a year.
If you have had the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccination, you may have a mild skin reaction to the Mantoux test. This does not mean that you have latent TB, but that your immune system (the body’s natural defence against infection and illness) recognises the TB."

Yeah, that agrees with me.

If it swells up (positive) you've have contact with TB. If you've had the BCG then there's a chance it will swell up because you're immune (false positive) but as far as JET is concerned this is you having TB and you need an Xray to prove you don't.

According to the nurse that did my test, she said 10mm + is a definite positive, and requires an x-ray. My measurement was 9mm, so she said I didn't need anything further and wrote on my results card "9mm in keeping with BCG vaccine." I had the BCG vaccine when I was 14 or 15, so she said that my result was fine. I don't know anything about the test, so I'm hoping that JET will be happy with this.

Hi, just checking that the deadline to get the police reply and the medical stuff back is 18th June- as in about 6 weeks time, right? Just cause everybody is panicking and then I started freaking out thinking I had read the date wrong or something?! I've requested my police stuff, but not going to do the medical stuff until 15th May as I'm too busy with uni atm. That should be OK right? Arghh! :?
