I'll send you a private message now with the details :)
I went for my TB results today but I'm still confused as to whether or not I need an x-ray. Anyone else had the test where they inject a liquid under your skin, then you go back two days later?
Anyway, the nurse said my result was a slight false positive, but said something along the lines of "9mm is within the guidelines that we deem to be safe enough for you to be protected against TB, and that you are immunised." I then told her that if I get a false positive, then I need an x-ray according to JET. But she didn't really seem to understand me. She said I'll be getting a letter from the hospital in a couple of weeks detailing my result, and that I should send that in with my certificate of health. She also gave me a blue A5 sized card with some of the TB result details, with a big N/A written across the chest x-ray part. Because she didn't really answer my question about whether or not I need an x-ray, I'm gonna have to call our lovely JET man on Monday to ask if this is sufficient or not. Does anyone know what on earth has just happened with me? Lol....

i wish jet were a little more standardised with common UK practice. if a doctor says "you dont need this, you dont have TB" than that should be sufficient. beaurocracy, eh?...

I understand what you mean, but I think it's the men at the top at Tokyo headquarters that are so pedantic. I think JET are just following orders from them. I can understand why it's so strict though, it's obvious they are doing their best to keep contagious diseases away from Japan. All it takes is one person to bring it over and spread it. A friend of mine had TB many years ago, and he didn't even know he had it until it got really bad. Just to clarify, I never had any contact with him, he was living abroad :P On another note, the nurse who was doing my TB test said that it's silly that whenever foreigners come to the UK to work/live, WE screen them and test them for everything on the NHS when they arrive here. They don't get tested in their own country before they come here, unlike we're having to do. A bit like SakuraHoshi was saying, my nurse seemed to be trying to guilt trip me a little about the whole thing, and not getting it privately done. Sometimes I think this country is way too soft, we let others walk all over us. But ah well, I'm not in a position to complain. That's just the way it is. :P

There's a difference between being soft and doing the right thing despite others not doing it. It's thinking like that which gets the British Nazi Party seats.

I think you misunderstood me. That was not a dig at foreigners at all, it was a dig at this whole medical procedure that we're undergoing and all the bureaucracy involved. Simply telling what the nurse said, she seemed to be the one with a stick up her backside. Throwing the word "Nazi" around isn't exactly a kind thing to do, especially when the one on the receiving end has an extremely high hatred for the "British Nazi Party".

Also, changing the subject, has anyone else received their police reply letters yet? I'm currently trying to work out when I might receive mine :P

Nope, no news on the SAR yet. I did shoot an email off to them the other day just to make sure I filled out the forms correctly etc and they said it was all fine and they would have contacted me if anything was amiss. Also they will definitely send out the SAR within 40 days as per the statutory provision. All in all as long as everyone has sent thiers off we should all be fine. :D Now back to revising for exams.. can't wait to get to Japan

Yea, I got mine on Thursday; that's less than nine working days/two weeks since I requested it! Sent it straight onto the Embassy :)

I'm finding it incredibly hard to focus on exams; whilst procrastinating I calculated that I only need 50% in my finals to get a first class overall, so the incentive to revise is even less...

The X-ray alone is going to cost me £113. With the medical on top of that I'm expecting it to come to around £200 total.
Bargain!

Woah that's fast  Did you send yours through the national one or a local one? Mine was through West Yorkshire police. I wonder if there's anyone else that sent theirs through them too :)

Oh and how is everyone sending their TB/X-ray results to JET? Just wondering because I had a Mantoux TB test, and my nurse has finally told me that it's only just a negative, which is good news. She then gave me a card with the results handwritten on it, then stamped with the hospital's details. She said the hospital is also going to send me an official typed letter with my results. I'm guessing that I'd have to send both the handwritten card and the typed letter to JET with my certificate of health? Anyone else had the same test? :)

I sent mine through Wiltshire Constabulary. Surprisingly efficient; maybe the crime rate is so low there that they have nothing better to do!

So today I was hit with the wonderful knowledge that my GP is going to charge me £120 to basically read a urine dipstick....

I really feel that my taxes go to good use...

Your practice will have a standard rate, but if your GP is nice you might get away with paying less. I was quoted the same as you, but paid 75 in the end... Technically this isn't a 'full medical' so don't let them rip you off

Yeah the GP who is dealing with me is a registrar, and i could tell she was so embarrassed and agreed with me that it was rather hefty.... going to give the main doc a call tomorrow as I think he did more work for my physician statement that this medical will be and charged £25 for that. Twice!

Will report back with my hopeful discount!

Also dreading how much a TB test will be..

Yep all in all I will be spending around the 220 mark.

90 - for the referral for an X ray
60 - x ray
70 - for the rest of the form

Guess I'll chalk it up to a neccessary sacrifice. And, of course, london prices for things.
