That's why you pay your GP to do it. It cost me £20. Your guy sounds like a dork

gettin the impression GPs just pick numbers out of thin air and charge you that, mine was £80.

Just had my medical done- it was 75 pounds. It was supposed to be 120, but the GP knocked the price down because it didn't constitute a "full medical" in his eyes. So just to echo what others are saying- it's definitely worth questioning the price you're initially offered... In most cases it will be some drone on reception (no offence meant to receptionists!!) quoting you a price- when in reality it's the GP who decides on how much dollar to charge

Agreed. You're paying for the medical, you aren't expecting the NHS to foot the bill... Silly man  Don't feel too bad about it. :)

I got my medical and x-ray done yesterday, at a total of £90. Yet another different quote on this thread!

Jenita wrote:I got a confirmation email the morning after I sent mine - and I think I was one of the first (on here anyway) to send one out. Maybe the Monday after results? Email was there when I woke up on Tuesday morning. But, someone did say they got an email or something warning them that ACRO are really busy, so I guess the responses are going to get cumulatively longer to happen. No harm in ringing to find out though!

Well I did end up ringing ACRO and apparently they haven't received my documents although the royal mail confirmed that they've been delivered  The guy apologised for the error and said that he'll be back in touch with more information... So in the meantime I went and made another request through Lothian and Borders Police, and the man at the desk said they were being processed in around 28 days at the moment which made me feel a little better! At worst I'll end up with 2 checks, but it's better than waiting on documents that may never turn up...

Glad I had my medical before I phoned ACRO or my blood pressure would've been through the roof

why is everyone doing this through ACRO?????

says quite specifically on the Met site that this form is only for people who are emigrating to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa or the United States of America .

I did mine through Northumbria Police. I sent it rec del and they recd it on 18th but they hadn't taken the money out of my bank yet, so I rang them and they said everything was OK and it was sent off to Scotland Yard when they recd it, and they should come back about 20-25 days later.

The UK JET twitter feed indicated that the PNC form via ACRO/Met Police was the correct form to submit, although you were able to do it through your local constabulary as long as the regional form gave an option to request information from the PNC. I just used the link from the JET twitter feed as I assumed it'd be the easiest way. Heh.

It seems that doing it through regional channels if possible is far more efficient than through ACRO. They've now offered me another check free of charge as they have actually gone and lost my documents  I've now sent off for one with Lothian and Borders police so I'm not sure if it's really worth taking up their offer.

Just been quoted 57 pounds for a chest x-ray - That will bring the total I've paid to over 130quid
I'm not totally sure whether to get a TB test or x-ray done- my GP is quite a young guy and didn't seem to be sure himself... any advice?

Well thats me just sent off all my paperwork today, but hearing stories of delivery confirmation going wrong makes me a little nervous. Plus I still haven't paid for my x ray yet, I'm sure they said that I'd get a bill when my gp got the results but that hasn't happened...

Has anyone been referred for an x-ray AFTER they've had the rest of their medical done by their GP? I'm going to book myself in for an x-ray, but the rest of my form has already been completed and signed off... Will the x-ray person be able to answer Q5 on the medical form, or do I need to take a copy of the x-ray back to my GP for him to sign it off? This is such a headache...

"So if there's anyone in the Hull area, let me know and I'll forward you the number to call."

I'm in the Hull area and would like this number to call please :) that would be excellent, thank you! I have my GP appointment on Tuesday and i'm sure they'l be as helpful as they can be but if there's a guaranteed free option then i'll give that a try! merci!

Vil0xai wrote:It's puzzling that there's so many people who are getting charged for the medical stuff. My GP did everything for free, except for the TB test which I am yet to have ( I didn't realise we needed one until the other day). I've been running round like a headless chicken all day around Hull city centre, looking for somewhere that will do the test for me. They just sent me round in circles to all the different health centres >_>. However, I stumbled across the hospital's chest clinic, and the lovely woman at reception knew exactly what I was talking about, and even said "ooh is this for the JET programme?" Turns out she knows exactly what I need, and has booked me in to have the test free of charge next Wednesday. So if there's anyone in the Hull area, let me know and I'll forward you the number to call :D They're changing the system in two weeks though, and she said they'll start charging for TB tests from then on. Also, I thought it might be useful for everyone to know if you don't already: the woman on reception told me that out of all people who have had the TB vaccination, 50% end up with a positive result, even though they don't actually have TB. She said it's something to do with the vaccination putting a small amount of TB in your body and it staying there. So she said in that case, if you're one of the unlucky ones with a positive TB test, you have to go for an x-ray to prove you don't have it. Luckily in my case, she said that if this happens, the x-ray won't cost anything either. So, anyone in East yorkshire, this one's for you.
