Road Cyclists

Postby tomutomutomu » Thu Feb 23, 2012 10:38 am

Morning,

After coming to Japan, I have become heavily involved in road cycling. I've joined a big cycling team and I often enter races but my passion is doing long rides and touring. Unfortunately my team mates only seem to do training, and this always involves riding the same routes. I usually find myself doing long rides alone!

If there are any other cycling enthusiasts out there, please contact me. I'm constantly doing 100 - 200 km rides to Kyoto, Nara, Osaka or Kobe, but I'm always looking for another adventure and someone to ride with.

Hey Thom,

If you end up moving to Fukui City, there are some nice trails along the major rivers.
In summer you can have some great rides to the beach and back. Mikuni or Takasu beaches are around 30 km from Fukui City, I think.
Personally, I like to ride out to Ono and the Ichijodani Area. Lots of lovely mountain scenery. It's 30km or more to Ono, and then from there you can go off into the hills if you want some intense training.

Cheers,
-Z

Hi,

I'm also into cycling but being from Shimane I might be a little far from you! We just completed a coast to coast (sea of Japan to the inland sea) ride during golden week and I am wondering what the next adventure will be. I was interested in joining our local cycle club too but was told I need a bike with drop handles so waiting until after the upgrade! Finding a reasonably priced road bike in Japan is a bike of a challenge but I'm keeping an eye on rakuten. Where did you get yours?

My partner and I do a lot of touring here in the US, and we are talking about shipping our Long Haul Truckers over so we can explore Japan by bike (or buy other road bikes once we get there--either way we plan on riding every chance we get). He and I will be moving to Kumatori-cho in Osaka Prefecture this August and it would be really great to meet other cyclists in our area and get involved with touring groups!

Thom, where are you located? Let's stay in touch and perhaps plan some rides in the near future...
