I submitted my request for the garda cert on Monday with an SAE and the cover letter with all my details. Got it in the post this morning! So that was delightfully quick. Pity they messed up. So I was back in to them today to ask for a redo. Haha. Fortunately once I have that next week I can send in the health cert and police cert and that will be all the alternate paperwork done. Just hopeful waiting left to do after that! :)

I got mine in like two days! I was so surprised at how quick the response was. Just waiting on my medical now which I have booked for 1st May. When do alternates have to have all their paperwork in by? *fingers crossed you get upgraded Deveire!

The alternates reply form has to be in by the 27th of April, and then health & garda certs by the 15th of June, so there's plenty of time yet to sort the last two out. I'd rather have mine in early though so that A) it's there early haha, and B) I don't have to think about it any more! Thanks for the crossed fingers. :D I hope you're placed somewhere awesome!

I got the impression you were recommended to have $2000 available to tide you over for all your initial expenses before your first paycheck comes in. Apartment deposit and rent, phone, car if you need one, groceries, etc. I would assume you'd be well safe with E2000, as the euro is stronger than the dollar.

You WILL in fact need more than that if your having goodbye parties etc...
Though you can always get a loan from the bank with an earning statement from the embassy.

So close to the reply deadline! Having a slight alternate freakout waiting to see if I get THE CALL next week :|

I'm still waiting for my Garda cert to arrive, I'm actually getting a little worried as the Garda I filled out and gave the application form to was clearly only ickle (very new Garda) and didn't really understand what I needed.

I'm torn between just going and getting the medical done now or waiting a bit to see what MAY come next week....

Same, slightly hoping everyone on the shortlist turns up as a hardened criminal and we're getting a call next week!

Maybe if you just gave them a call to check on it i did yesterday to which they replied it was in the post on friday and sure enough it was there in the post box when i got home with a squeaky clean record ... embarassing

here is hoping we get a call before the results came back i was a little nervous now i really want to go !!!!!!

and now with all my assignments done there is nothing to keep my mind of Jet until exam time so good luck fellow alts!!

What is with the rush for the criminal background check? The form clearly says June 15th and it applies to the Shortlisters as well. All that you need to submit by Friday at 5PM is the reply form (including the passport photos and a copy of your passport).

Just because you have those forms in over other applicants (including shortlisters) is not a reason you will be upgraded, if they clearly state you don't need them in until the latest (June 15th). A two week window is very narrow for most people including those of us in the middle of exams.

You will be upgraded on suitability and other criteria when replacing a shortlister.

Just my two cents.

There is no rush true, I have had my medical done since december and I just thought it would be better for me personally not to stress over forms during my exams and better for the jet desk if i submitted things early.I know first come first serve doesn't apply that it's based on how suitable you are to the programme or the requests made by the B.O.E. I just thought punctuality never hurt anyone (parents have it ingrained in me since i was small... I'm that sad person who has their watch set 5 mins fast so they aren't late to lectures   )and if an alt got upgraded at the last min it would mean less paper work rather than a scramble, plus I really do love going to the embassy it's really lovely there :)
