I believe there is actually a Facebook group forIrish JETs, but only really one that is official, I think it's the one with the small 's' in 'JETs' .

Also, I remember in the application back there was a sheet which had a list of Japanese courses that you can take. I might type up a few on here if don't have it.

Also, all alternates please check your email! There are MORE things to come from the embassy! :/
It was also, quite possibly, down to me *gleeful giggle* I brought in my reply form/passport photocopy this morning as I have no patience when it comes to JET (too excited), I think I was the first person to give it in, as 20 minutes later the email was sent out to say that there was meant to be another form in our post, but it's being sent out to us today.

I SHOULD be doing a rather large assignment right now, but even being a JET alternate is getting me too excited to concentrate!

Short-listed!! Oh my - totemo koufun shiteiru yo!!
To all the alternatives: don't give up. The first time I applied I got ALT status. I was crestfallen. Then I went off and did an MA degree, got some teaching experience, and tried again. If first you don't suceed...

Oh really? I will search for it. Are you a member?

I have tonnes of assignments/exams coming up but actually being shortlisted has given me super motivation to make sure I pass everything first time. I will NOT be repeating! My repeats are held in August and since we're supposed to be leaving at the end of July it would ruin my chances at Jet! MUST ACE MY DEGREE!
Finally in Japan and loving it!

Definately! Priorities now: 1. Get all the paperwork in 2. Power through this final semester and ACE my degree haha. 3. Get more hours from work so I can afford to live in Japan for the first month!

I am finished up end of May- can't believe it! After getting my results yesterday it has suddenly dawned on me that I have a month left till my finals... ERK! Panic stations once again!

Made the shortlist woop!! It still doesn't feel real! I definitely second the plan to meet up before July. We could possibly set up a facebook group for the Irish JETs to keep in contact etc??

Also, fingers crossed for the Alternatives xx

Hey Ciara! Hooray for shortlisted! Well done! I might set up a facebook page/skype for this years Irish Jets if anyone is interested??

Congrats Ciara! :D

Yes to Facebook Group. Perhaps a private one we can add people we know? And yes, definitely to the Skype and meet up. It would be nice to know people before the airport and Tokyo :)

I'd recommend you make your own private FB group with the something like "Irish Jets 2012-2013".
I'm the admin of the 2011-2012 group and it really worked a treat for getting to know everyone. Furthermore at the start of May once your reply forums are in and the upgrades begin, you should organise a pub get together to down the ice!

Thanks druidland! I'll make one & send anyone who's interested the details. On a less happy note went to the PO to get a new passport as mine will expire while we're there & it costs €90!!! Will have to wait for payday to get it done now :(

Urgh what a pain! Sorry to hear it.

Good news is that my Garda today at the station said the certificates are usually pretty fast, usually 2 weeks :)

Hey Siobhán! Welcome! Where are you based? I'm also shortlisted, my name is Róisín. So excited but really really really nervous also. Did you make any placement requests?

I'm from Dublin, studying politics in Trinity. I requested Kobe because I heard it was pretty but I think other people are far more knowledgeable than I am about the geography!

Cheers for setting up the FB group as well!

For any other shortlisters, the forms we were given tell us to check out the Citizens Information webpage for details for obtaining the Police Certificates but I found it to be completely unnecessary. I went to the Garda station this morning with a written letter for the district superintendent applying for the police certificate but there's no need for that or a birth certificate. Or a stamped addressed envelope! They just filled out a form and copied my passport and said I'd get the cert in two weeks. Easy as pie. :D

Hey, I was studying politics last year (in NUIG along with French and Sociology) and also applied for Kobe. Luckily enough for me, I go it. I also went for it because I heard it was nice and my reason in the interview and application paper were really week too, but here I am.

Anyway, good luck with getting it and I'll do my best to catch any early glimpses of who's coming to Kobe and which Irish people are coming. It's against the rules, but sure fooey it.

For whoever does end up coming to Kobe, I'll see you in July.
