Can anyone tell me when the background check and medical check should be completed? I have heard quite a few different things, but none seem to be from an Australian perspective. I don't want to wait until I find out whether or not I got in to start the process, only to find out that there is not enough time (seeing as it seems it can take up to 3 months for the Americans).

Perth here, the background check they wanted was the one done by the police and that takes 1 week. Double check with you local police department and embassy but you shouldn't worry about being late at all. The medical form should be done in 2 appointments if you need an X-ray. Again this should really only take 2 weeks max and that's assuming you only have weekends free.

Hi everyone!

I've been reading these forums for the past year or so, this is my first post though!.

I'm an Australian that applied for a CIR position, had my interview and am just waiting for the results.
I'd be really interested to see how everyone else did, so when the results start coming in, please post how you did! I will as well obviously :P .

Best of luck everyone!

Good luck Aussies! I am a first year CIR from Brisbane, placed in Gifu.
I recall the emotions I went through this time last year in the application
process.... which was delayed quite a bit due to the disaster.
Hope we have another great bunch of JETS heading over this year !
If anyone gets Gifu as a placement, feel free to give me a heads-up !

Hi guys! I am in a similar position as Tim here, first year ALT from Adelaide, placed in Okayama. I too remember what the wait was like, also with the earthquake making everything super delayed. I am sure you guys will hear something soon!

If anyone is placed in Okayama and wants to know anything, lemme know!

Hey, spanky. I'm actually not Australian (I'm Canadian), but I couldn't help but see and reply. I'm leaving tomorrow, too. Nervous and excited! Maybe I'll see you in Tokyo.

I interviewed in Melbourne and just got an email stating that our results should arrive by post early to mid-next week. I'm glad they gave us more of a time frame!

Yep here is the original email received.

Dear JET (ALT/CIR) candidates,

I hope everyone had a nice break over Easter.

I am sure everyone is anxiously waiting for their results.

Just letting you know that you are likely to receive notification of your results early to mid-next week. Letters will be posted to all candidates (short-listed, alternates and unsuccessful). Please let me know if your postal details have changed.

Good luck and will be in touch again soon.

Best regards,

Fingers crossed everyone.

I interviewed in Brisbane...no email for me yet. Hope that means there is still a chance of finding out this week.
