To the people talking about AEON and other companies:

From knowing and living with ALTs, you're better off waiting a while. These companies all work very fast with recruitment and placement, so there's no rush. In addition to not getting paid as much as JET, you'll have to pay for your plane ticket, and there's no chance your housing (or car if necessary) will be subsidized. So you'll want to stash away a sizable slush fund.

Speaking to AEON specifically - though you've probably read this elsewhere - their reputation is pretty hit-or-miss in regards to how they treat their teachers. Of course, eikaiwa work is a whole different ball game from ALTing.

This is a good thread to get started: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=4816
A lot of good information in there, though some of it is dated.

There are manymany different ALT and eikaiwa companies, so don't limit yourselves to the big ones.

My interview is over! Yay! I think it went well, but in the back of my mind, I keep worrying over how I answered certain questions...
Waiting is hard.
I didn't get any questions about my placement choices, though they were mentioned within a question about my interests.
My best advice is 1) Stay calm, 2) Smile, and 3) Be prepared for lots of questions about how you would integrate your interests in the classroom. For example, if you're into art, how would you use art in an English lesson?

Good luck Merkypie!

So is today the last day for American interviews? Are there still other countries interviewing this week? We're all going to be very quiet after this week then. We'll have to invent some games or something...

There are still some NYC interviews tomorrow, I think.

Hey everybody,

I have an interview in New York tomorrow and I'm trying to make sure I know what I put on my application...but I'm having trouble figuring out what my requested prefectures were. I'm pretty sure they were Kyoto, Osaka, and Tokyo, but I'd like to be 100%...can anyone confirm what E-26, E-29, and H-58 are? Thanks!!

E-26 is Kyoto Prefecture
E-29 is Nara Prefecture
H-58 is Fukuoka City

Everyone I saw today in NYC seemed to have a good interview. Everyone I talked to seemed very nice and very qualified. I can't imagine all of us being accepted, which I have to say is very sad. C'est la vie

Just came back from New York. I think my interview went pretty well.

According to the former JETs who were in the lobby, the last day of New York interviews are tomorrow. Then we'll all be on the edge of our seats until April! Let the countdown begin..

Same. I thought it went well too. I felt very energetic, very happy, and very confident. My mind was going a 1000 mph so I rambled a bit and forgot some things but other than that, a great interview. I think. I put my all into it. I have no regrets. Now I wait :| And hope that my personality and "genkiness" was enough

Good luck to all the interviewees for tomorrow! Be yourself!

I'm going to "attempt" *key word* to leave the forums for the next month. I think it will help me not think about it, and perhaps make time go more quickly as well.

Good luck to those of you who have your interview tomorrow, then the wait begins for us all :D
