To the people talking about AEON and other companies:
From knowing and living with ALTs, you're better off waiting a while. These companies all work very fast with recruitment and placement, so there's no rush. In addition to not getting paid as much as JET, you'll have to pay for your plane ticket, and there's no chance your housing (or car if necessary) will be subsidized. So you'll want to stash away a sizable slush fund.
Speaking to AEON specifically - though you've probably read this elsewhere - their reputation is pretty hit-or-miss in regards to how they treat their teachers. Of course, eikaiwa work is a whole different ball game from ALTing.
This is a good thread to get started: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=4816
A lot of good information in there, though some of it is dated.
There are manymany different ALT and eikaiwa companies, so don't limit yourselves to the big ones.
