Was an alternate up until last week when i got the call. Pretty damn excited to be honest.

Anyways, I live in Wellington but only just moved up so don't have a GP here. Can anyone recommend a cheap place to get the certificate of Health done? The best I've been able to find is Life somethingorother and is 280 with xray.

Woah, 280 is damn ridiculous. I can't remember how much my check up was, but my x-ray was 70 bucks.
At the hospital in Newtown it's 108.20 for the xray. I doubt the check up would be 180.
I did my stuff in Auckland, so don't know a cheap GP here. But I'm sure you can find cheaper.

Have any alternates (past or present) had any luck in finding out from their consulate where they stand in terms of chances of an upgrade? I know I should just be patient/try not to think about it, but my boss is putting pressure on me to accept a permanent position, and though I've explained my position to her honestly I'm worried about what will happen if I keep delaying my answer, and I'd rather let her know now if it's likely that I'm going to be bailing!

Well I imagine most people would have been upgraded by now, since we recently found out our placements, people may have pulled out.
Of course there is still a chance to be upgraded, but I don't think it is very likely. Sorry to sound pessimistic, but it may not be the best idea to hold off your life much longer?
You could try asking your consulate if upgrades for people pulling out after placement have been made yet.

well i was on the alternate list for Auckland and i just got upgraded last week. i have nooooo idea where or when im going, just that i won't be on the first departure on 5th of Aug. And i know its late but on the note of x-rays, i paid $108 down in Botany for 2 views which seemed fairly reasonable :)
any other Auckland JETs on here, i havent gone back through the last few pages yet but it would be kewl to see who is going.
also have you guys seen the map thing on the front page where you mark who you are and where you are going? seems like a good idea to me
NZ alternate, made shortlist 07/2012, departing on 22nd Aug 2012

Congratulations! It's a shame you don't depart on the same day as everyone else.
I'm an Auckland JET myself, and you should check out the countless facebook pages including a Kiwi JETs page, and a 2012 JET Participants (New Zealand).
The Kiwi JETs page has a map with people tagged at their placement too.
