Hmm...I took zillions of notes about it but it might have all been what you heard before.

However: The 15kgs weight limit on JAL we've been told about for domestic flights changes officially on the 1st of August to 20kgs! Whoop whoop

Cytrix wrote:So for those of you doing a scrapbook/show-and-tell book about NZ (like we were shown at the Q&A session up here in Auckland) what things are you planning to put in it?

I just made a giant list of things to do pages on and I think I'm going a little bit overboard with it!

I'm definitely going to make one... lets see, I would have pages on:
My house
My family+friends
My uni (where I studied and worked)
My town
Waikato industries - dairy, agriculture...
NZ industries - forestry, viticulture, fishing...
Favourite/typical kiwi foods
My family+friends
Places to see in the Waikato
Places to see in NZ
Statistics (population, geography etc)

Ok, yeah... I might need two or three scrapbooks!
What about you, Cytrix? What's on your list?

Yeah I've kinda gone overboard in my scrapbook! Did two pages tonight and it's looking awesome, but a long time to go until finished. Will give me something to do when I'm procrastinating my marking/packing.

So far on my list...

- A page on each province in NZ (Auckland has 2 pages, Canterbury 2 (for the earthquake stuff), Otago 2 and Southland 3 (since I'm from there originally).
- My home
- My family
- My pets
- My Hobbies
- My farm
- My home village
- My area in Auckland where I live/work
- Special celebrations
- NZ holidays (a page for Christmas, New Years, Boxing day, Waitangi Day etc. etc.)
- NZ animals
- NZ food (breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, NZ snacks)
- The different season in NZ
- Shopping
- Fashion (boys/girls/work)
- Maori culture
- The national anthem
- Rugby
- Rugby World Cup 2011
- Schools in NZ
- Other Sports
- celebrities
- films made in nZ
- TV shows

Anddd...I think that may be it for the time being

Went so over board!

Yeah very happy with the windmill in Tome haha. Location wise it's great, as you say just a short trip to Sendai or can go north to some mountains which I think are decent for boarding. From another forum I've read that JETs based in Miyagi all tend to get subsidised or free rent.... fingers crossed! The Welly Q&A was really good, we had a scientist guy explain radiation etc, a workshop with lesson plans, and just general info and plans for what to do before we go. Most of us made it out to dinner together on the Saturday and a few hung around for kareoke which was fun too. So good to meet everyone else who you know has been going through the same thing with the waiting, plan B's, and consistent checking of emails. It all feels much more real now. Man I just saw last night that RHCP, The Strokes, and The Mars Volta are headlining Summer Sonic festival in Osaka/Tokyo mid August. It's pretty steep but how cool would it be to go? There's a tonne of Japanese bands that are performing too, I'm so keen to get there but money is gonna be tight that first month...

Keen on Winter boarding trips and traveling to different areas every chance I get, please add me if you're interested in doing the same :)

I saw that too! So thinking about going. Im thinking about forking out for one day and seeing the Chili's. It'll end up being about the same I paid to go up to Auckland and back to see them in 2007.

Exactly my thoughts! It's a bit expensive but would be so worth it as an excuse for a Summer Japan roadie, the experience of seeing all the J-rock bands alone would be worth it and as you say, c'mon it's the Chili's. Where would you be traveling from? Wonder if there's some kind of overnight train dealie on the Friday... more research to come. Keep in touch with this though, it's completely achievable and would be such a cool way make a start in Japan :D

There are overnight buses which are cheaper than the trains and pretty comfortable :) Where will you be going from? I'm thinking of going, although I won't know for sure until late July/early August though. I'll be going from Kyushu up to the Osaka one.

Definitely keen to take you up on that offer. I didn't realise how much further away Osaka is from my town than Tokyo, it would actually be cheaper I think if I did go to the Tokyo festival, which you live pretty close to right? Only thing is that attending on the Sunday could make getting back in time for school on Monday pretty interesting.... I'll need to find out how late/early the trains run, as I'd be taking the Sendai/Tokyo shinkansen. Getting back to Tome from Sendai should be no probs. Actually I'll likely go on both days if I can ensure getting back by Monday, as there's some cool acts on the Saturday as well. Did you see that Village People are performing on the Sunday in Tokyo? haha. K I'll do my train timetable research and get back to you.

I'm definitely interested in the Osaka one, but will know for certain as it gets closer to the time. May put it off until my second year...

I may also be keen for the Osaka one. Going to have to wait till I get there and get everything sorted out though! If I can't make this one I will be at the one next year for sure!

I'm keen as on the Osaka one too! It's on pretty soon after we get there though aye? We do have a month of doing not much though so we could do a wee roadie to Osaka for it?
