I spoke to Melissa last week when organizing my health check and she said she's on annual leave from Easter until early May (was either the 4th or the 6th, don't remember), although there's probably someone else in the office who can help you.

Any alternates out there know if we have to return the medical form this week? Or do we only need to do it IF we get upgraded?

My letter says "You are requested to confirm your willingness (or unwillingness) to serve as an alternate participant by retuning the enclosed REPLY FORM no later than 29th April 2011. Should you be accepted, you will also be required to send a CERTIFICATE OF HEALTH and NATIONAL POLICE CHECK"

...so it sounds as though it's just the reply form... but the last thing I want is to be disqualified over not getting the right forms in on time!

I e-mailed Melissa about it a few days ago but haven't received a reply (apparently she is on annual leave, thanks for the info dcmon).

I think I might just take my alternate reply form to the Consulate-General tomorrow in person, and hopefully there will be someone around to ask JET related questions to...

I live in NSW. Just wondering if police check for criminal records is form P799 or P800? Also, do we also need to include fingerprint check along with name and date of birth check?

Also, wondering if police check should be sent straight to consulate/embassy or back to person first?

I'm in melb, but I didn't do the fingerprint check, nor have I heard of any aussie having to do it.

And afaik, it's fine for the police check to be sent to yourself and then you provide it to the consulate.

Thanks for the information. Is it a standard disclosure of full disclosure police check? The latter indicates teachers or teaching assistants. Not sure, I think it is the standard closure though.

Have your Alternate Reply Form in. Apply for your Police Certificate and book an appointment with your GP to fill out the Certificate of Health. Call or E-mail your consulate and notify them that you have sent in your Alternate Reply Form and are accepting the Alternate position, and that you have both applied for the Police Certificate and made a booking with your GP for your Certificate of Health.

To be honest, my Certificate of Health only took me 2 days, as there was a 1 day processing period on the Chest X-Ray, and when I got my Police Certificate (well, what it is in QLD) they said that the processing time for that will be up to something like 14 working days. So, with that, it's understandable that the Police Certificate won't be in on time for the Deadline, and depending on your GP, the time will differ for your Cert. of Health (longer if you have to do additional tests due to some aspects of your health). Just notify and let your consulate know that the 2 are currently being processed.

EDIT: Didn't see that you said Melissa was on annual leave. Try calling the Japanese Embassy in Melbourne and ask to be forwarded to any organisers of the JET Programme.

Thanks vkeii, I'll call the consulate-general tomorrow and see what they say.

I just feel it would be a little unfair if alternates had to fill out the certificate of health now... we'd be paying $100+ on an xray and doctor's appointment for a job we might not even get. It would make a lot more sense if people only had to get it filled out after they got upgraded to shortlist.

Anyway we'll see what happens. WBear + anyone else who wants to know, I'll keep you posted!

Hi all, just an update;

I called the consulate this morning and spoke to Darcy (I'm pretty sure that was his name anyway, I was still half asleep!). He was really friendly and helpful, and said Melissa had left notes regarding JET stuff - so if anyone has questions you can go ahead and ring. She'll be back early May as dcmon said.

In response to my own question,
Melbourne Alternates DO have to return the reply form and health certificate by this Friday (and the police form whenever you get it back).
The reason being if you get upgraded, the paperwork is all done already, and you can hit the ground running.

So, time for me to make a mad dash to the GP and the x-ray place... good luck everyone!

+1

If you live in any major city, you'll be able to find a bulk-billing GP if you're finding yourself a bit strapped for cash. Even if you have a regular GP who doesn't bulk-bill, you should be able to get a referral to a bulk-billing radiologist for the x-ray.

In Sydney there's a bulk billing medical centre and radiology in the CBD, corner of Bathurst and George St (2nd floor).

But I haven't been able to find a bulk-billing place in Melbourne CBD :(
Got my tests done today, get my certificate back tomorrow.
