I've got around 5 ties, and I'll be taking 2, maybe 3 over. According to one of the Izumi JETs already there we don't have to suit up all that often, so the plain blue and/or Elmo-in-ties (I can't stand Elmo but the tie cracks me up) ties should do fine. My suit is an old late 70s blue pinstripe number and most of my long-sleeved shirts are blue too - I have blue-grey eyes so it all works.
Still, I hate the rotten pseudo-slave-collars so if I can get away with not wearing them on a daily basis I will.

Another question - do we get sent any of the photos from the formal Reception? I'd kind of like to see how the respectabibble look panned out.

whats this about being at the airport at 9:20 in the morning?! they said at the Perth predeparture orientation that the desk wont open for check-in until 10:20am so why would we have to be there earlier?
i was planning on rocking up at 10:20!

I'm spending way too much time posting here...

That's what I'm doing, I read through the departure info and they said 10.20 check-in time. I'll try for about 10, but I'm getting a lift with my younger sister and her husband - they have a hockey game at 3ish - so I don't want to make them leave too early and then have to wait for hours on my account.
I'd be alright myself, we can all hang and freak out together after all, but it's a bit rough for them.

Your domestic flight is in the morning? Does that mean you Perth kids are going to be sitting around Sydney airport all day?

P.S. Volcano erupting in Indonesia and QANTAS pilots going on strike from Friday, lets hope we don't get stranded at the airport or the QANTAS flight is one of those weird ones where you buy a QANTAS ticket but the flight is really JAL.

Well, from Perth you have to factor in the time difference...as well as how long the flight actually takes.

And +1. Let's hope we can get off the ground and into Japan safely and without mishap.

Just so you know, if something does happen I'm now going to be blaming you for suggesting it could ;)

I just noticed that David Jones left a security tag attached to the sleeve of my suit. Guess I'll be dressing all in and going down to Sydney proper early for tomorrow's farewell, then - getting the tag removed will require I bring it down with me anyway

To all Melbourne JETs attending tomorrow night's (Thursday) farewell function (particularly the gals)...

How dressed up are you getting? Cocktail-type dress and heels?

One more question:

Are any Australian JETs getting extra travel insurance to cover personal belongings such as computers, cameras etc.?

Obviously we are covered under our contract for medical, but there's nothing to cover personal items.

If you are getting travel insurance, can anyone recommend a company that does just personal items and not medical as well (to avoid paying unnecessary cost)

or alternatively...

Does anyone know if we can get ourselves covered in Japan under home contents insurance?

Cheers,

I'll be dressing in a suit. xD not that it helps you, TazCaz. It's a reception at the Embassy, so I'd guess it's formal attire of some sort.

As for Travel Insurance, I hear you can go get home contents insurance in Japan. I don't think I'm gonna bother with Travel Insurance, but i probably should... *considers*

Tomorrow's farewell is meant to be fairly formal so I'll be suiting up.

You can get home contents insurance in Japan. I had a look at travel insurance, and it is quite expensive =/

Thanks Patryn and WhiteBear - looks like I better go shopping for some shoes tomorrow...oh no ;o)

Yes, I looked at travel insurance too but it was nearly $800 for 12 months (including the medical side of it) - might just go with home contents in Japan.

See you both tomorrow night!
