Lol, that is so bad and sounds really patronising to those that actually want to watch it because of the film and not an easy visual fix for a couple of hours. I usually go to the GFT (Glasgow Film Theatre), they have great stuff there and the staff are more on the snobby film lover side than the normal goths you get in cineworld

As for that Akira film Keanu Reeves just turned down the role of Kaneda.....shows you what sort of film they wanted. And its set in New York

They want Keanu Reeves for a lot of Asian remakes right now. I guess since he's supposedly already doing Cowboy Bebop he was busy. -.-

What's wrong with New York? Akira was in a Neo-Tokyo type place. For America, New York is the equivalent of Tokyo.

lol A lot of people say they dislike Jessica Alba as a main character. However, I really enjoyed her in Dark Angel.
The sequels for The Eye are The Eye 2 and The Eye 10. You can find them on Netflix if you have it. I love Netflix. That's where I found a lot of my foreign movies.

Nuu ;_; she horrible all around. Dark Angel she's not blond, so at least the awful acting is not enhanced by the obvious bleached hair. XD

Other than Akira, they are also making a Cowboy Bebop remake.

I also know what you mean about going to the theatre and them having to tell people that it's a foreign language film. That happened when I went to see The Orphanage (Spanish film). I was just like, "Yeah, I know." Sort of like a duh thing. Have people not realized that if you watch an American preview and the only voice you hear is the announcer that it's a foreign language film? American trailers don't allow the foreign language to come through.

Oh yeah! So many left in the Orphanage here as well! Pretty sad, since the film is also very good. Yeah, even French films they cut all the dialogue from the trailers... even Asian! They are obviously Asian, with people flying and swords etc, and yet they cut all the dialogue.

See Cowboy Bebop I can see as a life action and depending who's doing it, it could be awesome. The visual concept of it is possible to me. That said, there's always the possibility of being extremely pish. >.>

There is nothing wrong with New York, its a lovely city

However, I just don't feel it could portray the same sort of over-crowded, anarchic city background that places like Tokyo can as it would perhaps be too far from its current state. Although Tokyo isn't like it is in Akira you could at least see it heading that way if things went the same (as in the film). I think in making it in New York there would be too many compromises and adjustments to fit it to a US audience and setting that it would lose one of its charms for me - the dystopian Japanese city of Neo-Tokyo.

That being said I'm sure it would be easy to keep elements such as the gangs / religious groups / bike chases / government experiments / secret agencies / lasers the same - I just wouldn't want it to turn into some sort of cross between Men in Black and The Warriors.

I'd feel the same if they made it anywhere though, I'm just fine with the film the way it is and would rather it didn't become the next big film adapted from an animation and ruin its original value. I grew up on Transformers and Xmen etc but can anyone really say they enjoyed the films as much as they enjoyed the original cartoons when they were young?

I am one of the few women that actually liked Transformers when we were having a CGI discussion at university, but I do like CGI and sfx, besides, I wasn't expecting anything from it. And X-men... c'mon, Hugh Jackman! The crappiest film with him is it is worth watching.

I usually go to cineworld, since i can't stand how small GFT is. Again... CGI freak wants to see everything in a very big screen with comfortable seats and very loud sound effects XD. Besides, I go to the cinema too often and have a cinema card. Not sure what I'm gonna do in Japan without going to the cinema twice a week.

I'm quite glad Keanu is not playing Kaneda.... >.> and Spike, if that's who was supposed to be cast as for Cowboy Bebop.

Well not being a woman I enjoy the X Men films for reasons besides Hugh although some of those reasons are along the same lines, lol.

I'm with you on Transformers, I'm far too much of a giant robot geek not to watch both of the films and still be excited about the 3rd one (out 1st July!!!!). Love them or not though they are.....lacking.....in some respects. And it's got to be watched at the Cineworld in Glasgow for sure for the size of the screen and sound quality. I was talking more about GFT as they show the odd bit of Anime and a whole lot of Asian / European / Rest of the World cinema that Cineworld sometimes turns its nose up at. GFT has much comfier seats as well

That Zac Efron story was from last year so I'm hoping they came to their senses and decided not to torture us any more. I think someone who isn't already a 'star' would be best. As long as it's not Michael Cera too!

The real reason that Akira can't really work set outside of Japan is that the film is inexorably linked to Japan's past and the effects of the A-Bomb. Setting the film in another country is insincere at best, and also would render a lot of the symbolism of the original pretty meaningless.

If they're animated, they're usually dubbed. Live-action is more often shown in both. However it depends on your location. My city sometimes shows both but for some movies, especially Disney or "children's" ones, they'll only show the dub. My friends and I had to go to a bigger city this past weekend to see the new Pirates movie in English because our city only had Japanese.

1800 yen. Last/night showings are 1200 yen. Theatres also have deals- ladies day, men's day, etc so watch out for those. My theatre also offers a ticket book of 5 tickets for 5000 yen so only 1000 yen a movie, which is a good deal. They're only redeemable there, though, but other theatres may have something similar. Oh and 3D is an additional 300 or 400 yen.
