Forms to Bring to Orientation

Postby kemek » Fri Jun 22, 2012 7:07 pm

I guess I'm a little early on this but I like to be prepared. What forms are we supposed to bring with us to the orientation? I know there's the IRS certificate of residency for Americans, plus the opt-in for employee insurance. Is there anything I'm missing?

Looking forward to meeting everyone at the B orientation. ^^

UK JETs just have to bring the visa application form and their passport.

According to my consulate advisor, for Americans it's the IRS certificate of residency, accident insurance opt-in form, and handbook. We bring the visa application and photos to the consulate orientation.

You should have your visa application, photo, and passport to your coordinator well before the consulate's predeparture orientation. They need a few days at least to process your visa. I'd recommend double checking that one with your coordinator.

Whatever you do not forget to bring ANYTHING you were told to bring to London Orientation (this includes the passport photos). You don't want to be the guy who was told "You have 30 minutes to get them to us or we cancel your placement here and now"

We don't need to bring passport photos other than the one stuck on my visa application do we?

To be honest, I don't have the faintest recollection of what we were supposed to bring. Check the details in the letter they sent you. I only remember what happened to people who didn't have the things the were told to bring...

Spare a thought for the JET coordinator on that day. She has about 200 or so new JETs to deal with; she can't really be that flexible with people who didn't do what was asked of them. Just make her life easy for her and don't give her any reason to think you might find it difficult to follow a couple of instructions and get yourself on a plane come the end of the month.

I'm not sure you understood my posts, we have to bring the completed visa application form and a passport. That's it. I don't see how anyone could forget either of those things anyway.

In the welcome email I got from my prefecture, it stated that bringing along a few extra passport sized photos would be a good idea, because you have to have some for additional documents and, by bringing some, you could avoid having to get them done in Japan. ESID, of course, but you might consider bringing some along just in case or maybe asking someone from your prefecture to be sure.

For UK JETs who have finished university this year, we also need to bring a degree certificate to prove that we will be graduating before departure.

How many people last year? I don't mean to sound abrupt but if someone can't get their act together and remember a few forms then they don't really deserve to be on JET anyway. Lots of paperwork involved in teaching.

They reiterated that I can bring my visa application to the orientation. I'm going through Guam and I'm the only person at the orientation, I believe.
