I'm placed in Kyoto-shi! My second choice (after Tokyo). Looking forward to exploring and experiencing an entirely different world from the one I'm used to! :)

Anybody else on this forum who's close by?

There are quite a few newbies going to southern Kyoto that are on here, and there are a few going north to join us hermits! You should check out the KAJET fb group as well as the Kyoto JET past and present group ^∇^

Hey! Welcome to Hokkaido. Come on over to the Hokkaido thread in the Regional info. We'll answer your questions and try and put you in touch with your pred.

Over on ITIL Dialogue was right. You'll be right down about as South in Hokkaido as you can get. Right near where the train goes under the water and out onto Honshu.

Any other consulates still to release placements? Still nothing for the UK, even though we have been told that results were going to be posted at the beginning of this week, so we should have them by now. We're all being driven insane :?

Maybe it's due to the incomplete health forms?

I'm fine with incomplete health forms if alternates get upgrades!

I probably shouldn't be so cavalier about other people losing out, but being alternate listed does funny things to your head.

The UK is REALLY backwards with the whole process, though. E-mails are more efficient and cost effective than the post, surely.

You must remember that many people aren't on the forums and they may well have heard. You may start hearing today, but with the lead up to the weekend - Bank Holidays horray! the post WILL be delayed.

Just to clarify for UK shortlisters...

Placements haven't been sent out yet, but they'll be with us by the end of the week! Probably to avoid next week's bank holidays (and to stop us pestering the JET desk ;) )The package we'll receive both our placements and our departure group.

Good things come to those who wait! (I hope  )

EDIT: UK shortlisters have started receiving email notifications!

LA is finally annoucing placements. I got Shiga-ken, Takashima-shi. Shiga was my top choice, but I was not expecting the west side of the lake. It's a nice surprise, and I'm actually a bit relieved to not be in a large city.
