UK Alternates

Thought I'd make a group so we don't get mixed up with all the UK Shortlisters. Might be a bit brutal! Fingers crossed for the upgrades everyone x

UK alternate checking in here.

Although my university residence hasn't received any post, my mum has just phoned me to tell me I've been alternate listed (the post is always really late in my hometown).

Well it's a lot better than a rejection.

Let's all hope for an upgrade!

I'm an alternate! I'm just glancing over the paperwork and it's good that we don't have to submit most of it until June. I'm not sure how to go about all the x ray and urine analysis stuff- surely you'd have to go to hospital for that? I'll get studying the notes and see what I can find out.

Does anybody know how alternates are contacted to be notified of an upgrade. The paperwork suggests it would be by post, however I've heard others speak of a "telephone number lottery". I really hope it isn't the latter as I'm planning to do some travelling at some point in between now and departure. Nothing major but I would hate to think I missed a narrow window of opportunity like a telephone call.

The information in the alternate pack states it'll be by phone and you should inform them if you'll be out of contact for a period of time. Also, they do not leave messages (so say the notes in the pack.)

Yeah, they contact you by phone. It says that if you miss the call, you must call them back straighaway. I'm not allowed my phone on at work so I'm going to put it on silent vibrate mode and hide it somewhere on me. And if I miss a call, I'll go to the loo and if it's JET, call straight back. Of course, emails would just be so much less of a farce! I suppose phonecalls get a quicker response...

Edit: Is it me or are there no shortlisted CIR people on the forum?

Urgh, that's not great. Like you I currently work and am not allowed a mobile phone on me. The thought of missing out on an upgrade because of something like this would be one that would really haunt a person. If they don't leave messages then how would you know it was them?

You know what, I think this reinforced my desire to quit the current job I have early.

Somewhere in the notes we received, they say what phone number it would be. Just store the number in your phone as JET, so then you'll know straightaway. I can't quit my job as I need it to bankroll any Japan plans!

I've heard there's a 24-48 hour window where they'll try more than once to contact you. Maybe that is just america though? Is anyone else tempted to call and ask their position on the famed-list? I've heard mixed reports as to whether they'll tell you... Also does anyone want to have a group Skype chat? PM me your username if so. x

Hi,

I too made the alternative list for an ALT position. Hopefully the others will come to this thread so we can get an idea of how long the list is!

Good luck everyone.

I'll continue to update the list for as long as I can be bothered to.
