Don't have my Police Reply yet, but sent off my TB results to the JET desk today, so that if there's something wrong they can let me know with time to get it sorted.

I'm considering it, but I was reading that the permit is only valid for a year- so it seems a bit pointless. I wanted one in case I end up staying in Japan for more than a year, because I can't see myself getting a car in the first 12 months. It's quite cheap though isn't it, so might be worth having regardless

Definitely worth doing on second thought- it's only 8quid to get it done via post and the turnaround time is 10 days.

You're welcome. For anyone intending to get an international driving permit, the one we need is called "1949 Convention IDP"... it's the most common of the 2 types of int'l driving permits.

Thanks. :)

I've read that in some cases it can take up until July for some people to receive notification of a placement. Any more police replies in the post guys? I hate having my fate rest in other people's hands. Currently waiting for a letter from the hospital telling me I'm good to go as well as the police reply. I think the whole process of the JET application from start to finish has really taught me how to be more patient and trust third parties.

I totally agree with you Vil0xai, I've never had to be this patient before!

I got my police reply yesterday- just wanted to check with others who have had theirs back too. Did you basically get a blue letter that says there is no information about you on the PNC? I was quite surprised to get one measly sheet of paper back, for some reason was expecting it to be more of a big deal...

Did you get yours through Surrey Police? That's promising if so. When did you apply for it? I applied for mine almost immediately and I still haven't received the reply yet :? Maybe I should chase it up

I didn't receive email confirmation, but maybe it varies from force to force. I'm going to chase mine up now anyway, just for peace of mind. I can't wait until all this is over and done with!

Yep, it was through Surrey Police- went to the station at Epsom to apply for it on the 16th. They only cashed the cheque last week though, so if the money has come out of your account- then that is a sign it should be on its way soon.
