I understand what you mean, but I think it's the men at the top at Tokyo headquarters that are so pedantic. I think JET are just following orders from them. I can understand why it's so strict though, it's obvious they are doing their best to keep contagious diseases away from Japan. All it takes is one person to bring it over and spread it. A friend of mine had TB many years ago, and he didn't even know he had it until it got really bad. Just to clarify, I never had any contact with him, he was living abroad
On another note, the nurse who was doing my TB test said that it's silly that whenever foreigners come to the UK to work/live, WE screen them and test them for everything on the NHS when they arrive here. They don't get tested in their own country before they come here, unlike we're having to do. A bit like SakuraHoshi was saying, my nurse seemed to be trying to guilt trip me a little about the whole thing, and not getting it privately done. Sometimes I think this country is way too soft, we let others walk all over us. But ah well, I'm not in a position to complain. That's just the way it is.
