Vancouver JETS

Postby Anigi » Fri Apr 13, 2012 12:03 am

I am not 100% sure if I should make a new thread for this, I was going to post in the Canadian JETs thread but then realized what I was going to say is pretty much Vancouver specific. And then I thought hey we can use this thread for questions about our process seeing as dates and stuff are different across the board.

If anyone is interested in brushing up their Japanese for free in Vancouver I recommend going to Nikka Center (its on Granville, close to the London drugs and across from Sears.) I wouldn't be surprised if some of you already go there. So if you already know about Nikka Center ignore this :P

Also, anyone up for some kind of meet up?

If anyone is like me and doesn't have a Family Doctor in the lower mainland (mine is in Alberta) or if you can't get in to see your doctor in time...

Care Point on 711 w. Pender was able to do my medical exam for 180.00
They were super nice and friendly (I had called around other walk in clinics and it was just a horrible experience. :( )
They can't do the x-ray but they can do the TB test.

It is a language exchange club, basically you speak English with a Japanese student for a hour to help them get conversation practice and in turn you get one hour of Japanese conversation. It is fairly simple and straightforward, but I found it really helped me build my confidence in speaking Japanese as well as my stamina for listening to Japanese. Any level can benefit from Nikka center in my opinion.

I wouldn't worry too much about it hehe. :D I went in person my first time, so it was pretty evident that I was ok with English, by email they do not know if your English is clear and easy to understand. Like I said I wouldn't worry about it. :D

Hah, I was upgraded last year too, feels great, doesn't it?

I actually got the call from Steve while in my Japanese exam, and I had no idea who it was from. Congrats!

Thanks Anigi and Lemming! :D
It'll be fun for us Vancouver Jets to get together but it seems like there's really few Jets from Vancouver. Maybe just not active on the forums. :?
