I've just joined now as forums can be addictive at times!

To be honest there is probably a lot more Alternates, its likely people have not joined the forums.

I'm a CIR Alternate at the moment.

Just got back from my holiday last night and ripped the envelope open: alternate. Again! I'm a bit disappointed, but - as with last time - at least there's still hope. (Maybe the whole earthquake/tsunami/nuclear reactor stuff will scare a few off for us. ;) )

Ohhh you guys seem nice and chatty in this forum! The UK Alternates aren't so much. Good news on all the alternates being used last year! I don't think many UK's got upgraded but that's sheer speculation from the forum info I could find.

This might brighten up your day:

My friend is a JET who got upgraded last year and he doesn't know a single Brit in Japan that wasn't an alternate from that year (in his friendship group).

For the first time, today I noticed a LOT of names in the sign-in book in the embassy for the JET desk/Japanese Embassy, I'm not sure why but it made me really excited about all of this

Do you think it could be good news or very intent on keeping their place shortlisters?

I think it was just nice seeing all these other people going in and out, knowing that they're there about JET, I've never been in the embassy when any other JET applicants have been there so...yeah

I can't describe the rollercoaster of emotions this forum gives you, especially the other alternate threads, I'm going to try and stop reading them as they sometimes give you a bit too much hope in one post, then dash them in the next ha!

I love going to the Embassy I can't wait to get my Garda cert so I can go up again.

Yeah I don't like the dash your hopes post but i've found this week that college essays are doing really well at keeping my mind occupied :D I mainly just use the forums at this stage to just make Jet friends with all you lovely people :)

When I applied to 2011's JET I met a bunch of other applicants in the elevator as I handed in my application. (Applied, applicants, application. What a sentence.) I tried to be friendly and talk to them on the way up and it resulted in the most awkward couple of elevator rides I've ever had. It was a rare thing to meet people shier than me at that point! (Now you'll never get me to shut up.) Good times!
