Oh, and congrats! :D

I only got an upgrade confirmation email from my coordinator. For my Consulate, they have a google group that posts announcements for all of those who are short-listed. I had to go through every post, to see what I missed the past 2 months. Either than that, my coordinator hasn't emailed or called me ever since.

I suspect that the next time my coordinator contacts me, it will be informing me about my placement! Which I am very anxious to know right now!

I almost cried on my way home today, because I HAVE BEEN UPGRADED!

I don't know how or why this is happening to me now, but it can happen. Don't give up hope yet. Just live your life and take the opportunity if it comes.

Now to figure out how I am going to get everything in order in time...

P.S.-I hope many more of you get upgraded, sincerely.

Oooo, big congratulations to you! Best of luck with getting your life in order so quickly!
Meanwhile, I'm just gonna keep sitting here and crossing my fingers.

After attending those seminars, I am really disappointed in the JET program. Most of the shortlisters who went to the seminars wore sandals, coloured blazers, low-cut top, shorts, short skirts, heck one of them had a nose ring on, and the email clearly states, "Dress is Business Casual (Some clothing no no’s: no sleeveless or low cut tops, no jeans, no short skirts or short shorts)". They either don't understand English, don't know how to read, a complete ignorant or they don't give a damn. Really makes me wonder how they got in in the first place? What's more ridiculous was this shortlisted girl who we were talking to at one of the group lunches. She told us she was giving a job of graphic design and a 7 year relationship just to go, but wants the job back after a year. My girlfriend told me that during one of the all-girls section Q&A, she changed the subject from birth control pills to talking about how to engage in a relationship with teachers/students. I mean what the heck? Doesn't she have a 7 year relationship? GG JET program.

I'm not sure this is the appropriate forum (har har) to be complaining about that kind of stuff, especially about specific people who might recognize themselves from this post. It sounds like sour grapes at best. It's not for you to judge who was chosen and who wasn't. Also, I'm shortlisted and I definitely wore sandals (nice sandals!) to the Orientation weekend. Sorry if I offended you.

Did you offend me? Nope? Did you offend and ignore what the email said? Yes. So tell me, are you going to wear casual clothes to work when clearly the dress code says you have to wear business casual or business formal? Just asking.

PS: From you message, it looks more like that I offended you! I am so sorry I offended you for wearing sandals and not knowing how to follow simple instructions.

Just so you know, many Japanese teachers wear dressy sandals to school every day. And chucks. Some wear track suits. You're either a troll or extremely bitter over something so miniscule. I hope you're a troll. Stressing about the tiniest detail is not really a qualification the people on JET are looking for. They want people who can roll with the punches and take on the unexpected with a good attitude, which is something you are CLEARLY lacking. Get over it, learn to relax, and just be better.

Cry harder?

Also I'm really confused as to how people neglecting to follow orientation seminar dress code reflects on the program. Are you disappointed in JET or jelly at the people who wear sandals yet still managed to get in?

Ika is totally jelly. It's summer, it's hot, people do what they want.

I'm not sure how it reflects on the program either. I doubt most of those people dressed that way to their interviews, so it's not like JET chose a bunch of slobs. Not on purpose anyway.

Yes, so I was at the Toronto PDOT and was wearing sandals. On the second and third day. It's not because I'm a slob or because I don't follow instructions. I was wearing dress shoes on the first day! That was the problem. I didn't know that on the first day, I would be walking from JFT (Bloor and Avenue) to the lunch location at Church and Bloor (the walk back and forth was less than 2 km). On new shoes (have never walked them for any distance other than the store and inside my room) with a bit of height on it and no socks or stockings on my feet.

So what happened when I got home? 3 very painful, bleeding wounds on the back and side of my ankles. I really wanted to attend the rest of PDOT so forgive me for sacrificing the business casual side of the shoes (my top and pants were totally business causal though!) when I tried to save my feet from further agony of wearing shoes that have back of the heels covered. I know at least another person with sandals (who was probably forestsprite!) Here's my side of the story ;)

Just let it be, maybe the PC noticed and would want to give my spot to someone else? (...M-san, If you're reading this, please don't give my spot to someone else!) This is probably a trial for the Tokyo Orientation for me, definitely no heels XDD And yes, the questions about teacher/student relationship was kind of awkward, but it could happen... and it's nice to be prepared...? I never would have thought about the advice about going to another town/city for dates. I am thinking of applying this advice when I try the onsen, so I won't encounter awkward moments with students and their families XDD

That is precisely why I avoid dress shoes at all costs. That's good advice for the onsen; the thought of an awkward run-in had crossed my mind before.

Ika, I understand the frustration, but you're not helping yourself or anybody else by posting stuff like that. Please try to keep positive; your time may come =D.

On topic: Congrats Koko!!! The waiting has paid off ;p.

Its a disappointment when you don't follow instructions and respect the rules and don't show professionalism. If there are rules and instructions then I believe you have to follow them because its called professionalism and respecting the occasion. For people who just dress whatever, that means they aren't really taking anything seriously. I studied HR for 4 years, and I know how serious a person is by just looking at what they wear to such and such occasions. As for dress shoes, everyone in the financial industry wears dress shoes everyday and the dress code is part of the code of conduct so everyone has to wear. However, you can find much more comfortable dress shoes if you take the time. Like me, I found 2 pairs really comfortable.

PS: Cry harder?? How about you TRY harder?? Someone who lacks respect and professionalism is someone who won't succeed (especially in Japan). Why would I need to cry? I'm going to Japan too!! Funny person!
