I am from the beautiful Garden State!

I just started filling out these lovely forms... I hope I can get a doctor's appointment and everything done in time!! What with a senior thesis due next week and exams and major concert coming up, I will be on edge until this is all over with!

Haha, well I'm a little weird about giving away my exact location via the forums but I'm way farther north than you are :-) Seriously, think Canada!

Form stress... begin!

I called several police stations near my work and none will fingerprint a non-resident. Then I called my local station, which will, but is only open from 8-4 and I work 8-5 an hour away. I made sad noises into the phone and they're sending an officer to my home to do it. Oh, small town kindness!!!

Haha yessss I second this! So many forms! It'd be easy to forget something with all of the school stuff going on too. My honors thesis is due next week too (crying) and more papers, exams, not to mention defending my thesis (crying harder). I just want to fast forward to July 28th!!!

Congrats, short-listers and alternates!

Heard that everyone was getting results, so I thought I'd pop by and say hello! I'm a short-lister from last year's round out of NYC! I'm currently in Nagano-ken and loving it :). And - yes, flights should be out of JFK - ours were! We had two separate flights that they separated us into - a morning and afternoon flight. They were even on two different airlines! I'm not sure if things will be the same or different this year, though, obviously.

This is so nostalgic! Haha, good luck, guys! I hope you hear about placements and such soon :). If you have any questions let me know!

Hey! Just thought I'd say my neighbouring city has almost always hired NYC consulate people, specifically who are originally from nj. So one of you might be my new neighbour ;)

Meeting up sounds like lots of fun! I'm a borough dweller, and totally down for karaoke, food, etc.
The Met is one of my all-time favorite places, and the Japan Society is great: has art galleries and shows Japanese movies too.

Congrats to everyone here! Can't wait til we find out our placements.

Thank you! When did you find out your placement? I have a hunch that if I get all my materials in ASAP, I'll have a better chance of getting my top placement choices... probably not true but it's good motivation to get this stuff done now!

Hooray! Yeah! Greetings everyone. I've been very inactive on these forums but now that I've been shortlisted maybe that will change. Looking forward to meeting you all. Let's just pray that Merkypie gets accepted!

My case last year was a little different due to the earthquake and tsunami, so I can't really say for sure when you will find out. I found out in mid-June through the girls in my town messaging me on facebook. Our results were very very delayed because of the disaster, so I assume this year you should get yours much earlier than that - probably late may / early june? There's a good chance you could be contacted by your pred via facebook or email, too! I don't think the speed at which you send in your materials makes much of a difference in your placement, but I could be wrong :).

Congrats to all the new JETs!! I came through the NYC consulate last year and looking through my e-mails, we recieved shortlist notification on April 16th and placement notification on June 16th.

Here's my advice to everyone who made it: Do your best to relax. Don't over stress about the forms. Spend as much time as you can with friends and family. Enjoy your favorite American foods. Study Japanese. Start packing early.

If you didn't make it, I'm sorry. But don't give up on your dreams! You can still make it to Japan or teach English abroad, there a lots of other ways. Or you can spend this year becoming a better candidate and try again next year.

I'm so excited you guys, I think you're all gonna have a great year!

ASAP, but May 4 at the latest. If your results come out later I expect they'd give you more time...
