Post-interview chit-chat

Postby miami_coordinator » Sat Mar 03, 2012 3:50 am

I know trying to keep people from talking about their interviews after the fact is like to trying to brace against a flood with a toothpick. Still, please practice discernment when it comes to how much information you share about your interviews and the interviewers.

Some of the interviewers at the various consulates found out that their actual names were mentioned on some of these forums, and it made them feel very uncomfortable. I've heard of other cases where interviewees have more or less stalked out their interviewers to demand information from them. These people are doing us and the JET Program a great service by providing their valuable time, insight, and dedication to the JET selection process. Please don't scare them away!

Also, I know in my consulate I've got to do some damage control from the well-meaning but absolutely incorrect information given out by one of the JETAA volunteers during interviews. JETAA volunteers have great insight and enthusiasm for JET, but please be sure to verify any and all pertinent information with your JET Coordinator! Or, if it's something you don't feel like bringing up with us, at least talk to other JETs and JET alumni to see if what you've been told seems to correspond with their knowledge and experience.

Thanks guys :) . I have to say, this year has been one of the most amazing years for recruiting and interviewing I've ever experienced. From getting to know some of you on the forum and seeing your great support for one another to actually seeing the stellar candidates we have this year, it's been a real treat. Thanks for being so awesome! :D

Stalking??? Yikes! Out of curiosity, my consulate (Chicago) did not make us sign a non-disclosure agreement, but I had hears that other consulates did? Does that mean that I don't have to worry about talking about the interview?

Woooow, stalking? That's just absolutely crazy. o_____O This has been one great experience and I have to say it was fun being able to share that experience with everyone here. :) Now that it's all over and we're simply waiting for results, it kind of feels bittersweet. xD Nerve wracking but bittersweet. Oh well, here's to us getting shortlisted!

I also interviewed in Chicago and did not have to sign a non-disclosure agreement either. If every other consulate has non-disclosure agreement, I think it would be logical not to speak of it either in respect to the interview process. I'm sure sharing how great your experience was wouldn't hurt but details should be kept to yourself.

How did anyone find out their interviewers' names?! I don't recall anyone wearing name badges in the embassy and the interviewers never said their names when we shook hands. Posting their names on a public forum is pretty bad

Maybe it was just my panel, but the people I interviewed with in Chicago were wearing those "Hello my name is..." stickers on their shirts with their first AND last names on them.

Who would go that far just to ensure placement? I'm not going to try to get to Japan with underhanded deeds... On that matter, I've completely forgotten the names of my interviewers anyway.

It boggles my mind that they remembered their interviewers' names enough to post them. I felt very honored that I had the interviewers I did in Atlanta. They were very polite and nothing like some of the horror stories I've heard people encounter.

Even with respecting them greatly and really enjoying being able to talk with them during the interview, I don't remember a single one of their names. I was just too nervous. My brain discarded that information immediately after I shook their hands.

It's silly what some people would do... I even resisted the urge to go up and talk to the former JET some more after my interview. I didn't want to seem like one of the crazy ones by striking up a potentially awkward conversation.

That sounds horrible! I can't believe anyone would put the interviewers in that kind of position!

I hope that having my real name in my username doesn't make any of the staff who might be lurking in here feel uncomfortable. I just thought it sounded more professional.

To be fair that person/group was probably not being considered in the first place (hopefully)

When I interviewed a couple years ago, we were given hand outs with a list of the panel members and their professional/academic experience. If any of the consulates still do this, it makes stalking pretty easy, lol.

Na kind of actually want this job so was smart enough not to stalk :P Unless stalking means visiting the forums more than I should, then guilty as charged. hehe.

Well, you get all kinds of people applying for this. It's hard to not get excited, but some people obviously get overexcited. Feel confident that most of the 'crazies' probably got weeded out from the face-to-face meeting :P

Interestingly, my panel (A) in Chicago did not wear name tags. They just had little signs in front of them that indicated what their association to JET was.
