Worrying Query (UK Grad)

Postby JasonB91 » Sun Feb 12, 2012 3:52 am

Hey all.

I'll be finishing university in May/June of this year, however my graduation ceremony is in July (which is when I'll be presented with my official degree certificate). I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on how past UK jet grads have gone about the visa documentation which presumably requires proof of graduation (such as the official document from my department stating when I'd finish my course that accompanied my application pack).

Any advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Edit - Having just sent an email to department about this, I am now freaking out.

There's a thread about this from last year, but I can't find it anywhere. I'll keep looking and post it when I find it.

It said basically you just get your uni to write an official letter to confirm that you've passed your degree etc. Nothing to worry about, I'm sure loads will be in the same situation. :)

My Uni doesn't do graduation ceremonies until November, so if I was still an undergrad, there's no way I'd have the degree certificate in my hands by early July either.

Here we are- I think this is what you're referring to: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=5594

Ok, that's reassuring to hear.

I've sent an E-mail to JET UK in addition to my department UG secretary.

Fingers crossed everything's fine.

I confirmed this a while ago with the Irish embassy- yeah, a letter and transcripts are suitable for visa purposes.

Dear [My name],

Thank you for your email.

We understand that many universities will not issue graduates’ degree certificates until after the August of their final year. Should you be shortlisted for departure to Japan, you will need to bring the relevant documentation to the JET Pre-Departure orientation in early July.

This document should be a letter from your university tutor/ academic lecturer stating that you “My name” have completed your “BA Hons degree in History” on such and such a date and have received the following degree classification... Please be aware that this document must be signed and on university headed paper.

We hope this answers your query.

Kind regards,

UK JET Programme

....Awesome. :D
