You do need to realize that Japan has different dress standards than America/the UK/Australia/New Zealand etc.

This is why people jumped all over your post, just since it worked there doesn't mean it will work here.

Just let him wear the shirt. It will give more serious applicants one less competitior to worry about and the type of guy who turns up to interviews in wacky dress to showcase his individuality is the type of guy I dread getting sent to my prefecture.

I do realize it and I never said I would wear such things over there. This is an interview thing to bolster confidence, nothing more. I believe I stated that rather early on.

So much hostility amongst what should be mature individuals. I'm disappointed. Even said I would wear a normal school colors shirt that everyone else does around here too, yet you still continue.

Ah well. Thanks again to the serious answers.

Honestly, if you were wearing it with a suit jacket and tie, I don't think it would be that big of an issue. Is it the most professional wear? no. But, is it better than showing up in a wrinkled polo? Absolutely. As long as you've got the suit part on, I think it would make a decent impression on the interviewers.
