I haven't, but they only received my reply form yesterday (even though I sent it by express last Friday...) When did they receive yours? Do you know your placement?

Another question for my fellow Aussie shortlisters: do we send a copy of the health certificate to the consulate, and the original copy to the CLAIR office? This is how I've interpreted the information about the Yakkan Shomei certificate.

random question about the police check: on the question that asks for the purpose of the check we are only allowed to choose one option. Is it for working with children? or for an overseas visa application? Thanks

I believe it's for the overseas visa, but when I went to the local police station I just left those boxes blank and explained the situation I am in. It mustn't have had any effect on the check as I received it last week at some point.

Hiya, I'm also a shortlisted Melbourne ALT! I've only just found this forum (better late than never!) as I was looking for information about the reply form etc. :)

I actually emailed Ms Nemoto about this since I was confused too, and she said to just write "working overseas" as the reason. But I think putting "overseas visa application" or "working with children" shouldn't matter too much!

oh hey! I figure you guys might wanna/already know:
Last year we flew to Japan with QANTAS and they only gave us like 20-23kg of baggage space. What I'd suggest to you guys is that you become a QANTAS Frequent Flyer which gives you an upgrade to 32kg of space (at least, this is how it was before I left). Yay for free baggage space!

I think it costs money to join their frequent flyer club, so I'd perhaps check with the embassy to see if you're flying Qantas still before doing so, but it's definitely cheaper to join the club than it is to pay excess baggage on the day! crazy rates! >_<

I would figure that the flying Qantas wouldn't change. As Australian JET's all fly together to Japan on the same flight it will generally be Sydney to Tokyo which is a Qantas route, flights tend to need to be direct if possible. So flying other companies that transit through other places is unlikely.

I used a shipping company to send over my winter clothes and things, because the cost of a second suitcase at that weight was going to be close to $800, and that would have been with pre-purchasing the extra baggage. Sending the box ended up being around $230 from memory.

You *should* get your address before you go so you can send some boxes (winter stuff) over. I have all my winter stuff in one box and all my motorcycle gear in another so I can instantly ship it if I pick up a m'bike again.

I have been checking out postage and AusPost doesn't seem to the cheapest these days, although everything appears to be air mail these days, so it gets there quickly.

Has anyone used CubeIt before?

Prices look good and they appear to have good combination package deals for more than one thing. I haven't received placement advice yet so I don't know if I want to ship my mountain bike over and getting it to Syd in the first place (from CBR) might end up costing too much to make it worth it. Ahh, logistics when you don't know anythin

Does anyone know when prefecture selections will be announced?

I can't wait to find out where we will all be heading.
