If it is bad, I got a few companies, such as Interac, book marked. I think they have a session in Vancouver in April... Either way I am going to Japan, ideally with JET but if that door doesn't open for me, I will find others :D

That's pretty much the story of my life right now :P (but substitute Toronto)

I'm so excited! I'm also horrified, but mostly I'm trying to stay on the positive end of anticipation.
I wish every one good news, and if it can't be good, may it be for the best.

Keep an eye out!

Don't feel too bad that you didn't get Hiroshima City, I am in Hiroshima prefecture and the city JET's are all getting the boot for 2012 as Hiroshima City is going in another direction for the time being. They have already been downsizing in Hiroshima City for several years and this was the last one. Hyogo would cool, though unfortunately Himeji Castle is under major renovation until 2015 so unless you plan on staying awhile you won't get to see it in all it's glory... sorry to rain on your parade but just thought you should know. If any Canadian do end up getting Hiroshima pref. let me know and I can try to answer any questions you might have as to how to pack before you come. Good luck everyone.

Yet another reason to request Akita! We keep getting more and more JETs added on. I think this prefecture has money to spend. My boyfriend's school even has a new project to implement technology into education, which will cost a lot of money and requires more teachers. Come to Akita and secure yourself a job...lol

Ahhh! Careful about those new programs. The newly merged super-high out here is implementing them in their technical stream, and those students do NOT get access to either of the two ALTs in any of their classes. My friend is looking into it, as he says it's a little odd for them to say "NO ALTs" in their English classes, but it's possible it could be an element of the program budget wise.

Just an FYI, if you're requesting Hyogo or Hiroshima, there's a chance you could end up where I am, in Okayama. It's the oft-forgotten prefecture between Hyogo and Hiroshima, and they've been increasing their number of JETs the past couple of years after cutting so many. There are a lot of older JETs leaving too, so hopefully I see a few more Canadians around here.

If you do get Okayama, rejoice, because there's a pretty good community here, and Okayama is kind of in the middle of Japan, and therefore a major travel hub; the airport has flights to pretty much anywhere in Asia, and I live about 10 minutes from a Shinkansen station.

Also, it would be really interesting if I could meet some of you Fukuyama JETs, I actually live closer to Fukuyama than any other city, despite being in another prefecture. I just don't know anyone there and have no reason to go haha

Hey everyone!

You are all welcome. I hope that every single new person we get in Tokushima is Canadian. That would be saweet. I just got elected onto our local AJET team, so I'll be helping to show everyone around in August!

As for fencing (someone asked about this, I think), I doubt you will find anything like this anywhere but big cities. Kendo / Iaido etc. are popular, obviously, and you can usually join all kinds of cool sports clubs, but N.A./European fencing might be tough (in Tokushima, anyway).

Seriously though, good luck guys! Hope to meet some of you soon!

I will admit that a part of me is hoping I don't get the places I requested. I mean of course I want to go to my choices that is why I picked them... but I am starting to see that there are so many options and I kind of want to be surprised. Man I don't know if that makes any sense. I'm just excited. And after all that has been said watch me not even get in lol.

I can understand entirely where you're coming from, and it makes perfect sense. Despite putting down a couple of requests, I wouldn't be disappointed if I didn't get any of them. I would be thrilled with any placement!

I can imagine that the next week or two (or three) will be stressful for everyone...the road here has been a long one already...but best of luck to all! Make sure to take some time to relax as well. I'd hate to see anyone have to make the trip overseas with a brand new ulcer! :?

eeeek not a huge development but the jet canada page changed their update to "Interview results will be available soon". it used to say they would be available early April. I hope 'soon' means by this Friday...the anticipation is killing me. Best of luck to everyone struggling with exams and waiting for these results!! :)

It's a good thing I went ahead and booked three straight days of substitute work, keeps me busy/tired and less anxious. Already planning a celebration, no matter what the answer is. It will be so liberating to be able to move on either way, can't wait! I wish they would just give us a date already, this website updating business is suspicious.

I'm also anticipating the results, but unfortunately right now I've got bigger problems to worry about. Apparently my university is anticipating another TA strike next month, which means that grades and diplomas might be delayed if the administration decides to shut down the whole university like last time this happened. I know on the official JET Canada site it says that one must obtain a Bachelor's degree by July 29, 2012, but during the information session last year they told me that the local consulate has to receive copies of everyone's degrees no later than June. June is when the students here are normally expected to graduate, but who knows what will happen. I'm so uncertain right now I don't even know what to think. It's sad to think that even IF I do get accepted to the program, my opportunity might be jeopardized by some circumstances beyond my control.

So yeah, not too thrilled about the upcoming results at the moment...

I would contact your embassy the moment you hear if you're in. Tell them about the possible strike and they'll be able to help you prepare. The thing is that they need your degree to get the visa but even though they want to do it earlier it can be done last minute I promise. With Eikaiwa we go in and get it put in a the last couple of days before leaving. I need be I am sure yours can wait so long as all the prep is ready.
