Hey, Emidono I'm from Hamilton! I go to McMaster, I assume you're at UoT? Don't worry you're definitely not alone when it comes to Toronto. Good luck everyone!

My name is Emily and I've applied from Toronto (so far I think I've seen one other person mentioned Toronto in this thread..Oh so lonely?). I figured I'd finally join and speak since I've just been lurking to see if anyone has gotten an interview email yet. Like everyone else here, I've been sitting nervously since yesterday.

I've always been interested in Japanese culture and language since I was a little girl (Come on, Pokemon was the definition of childhood). Despite my sister hoping it'd be a phase I would grow out of it did not happan (haha!). I'm currently taking 3rd year Japanese at McMaster and loving it. Japanese has always been my favourite course and I was glad I finally got a chance to formally learn the language.

Other than that, I love video games (console and PC) and cosplay (Any other cosplayers here?).

Good luck everyone and I hope we'll hear back soon!!!

Hey Emily, my name is Alex - ya I'm applying from Toronto and feeling pretty lonely too haha. I'm surprised no one has posted yet saying they've heard back - I wonder if they're doing it alpahetically or by province or what...
Lol funny I never got into Pokemon as a kid but I loved Sailor Moon. Anime I started to like later on and now I collect manga.
I did want to take Japanese at Ryerson, but there is never enough enrollment so the class is always cancelled. But my program is very very intensive so I wouldn't be able to give it all of my attention anyway.
And cosplay is pretty awesome, I only started learning about it this year. Imagine what it's like in Japan  lol.

aboultzi wrote:I think the Canadian JET coordinator meant that they would be the one to notify the applicants who got an interview, in any province (because by title they take care of Ottawa). In context of the conversation earlier in the thread that's what I got from it, not that they would notify applicant who didn't make it to the interview stage as well. It seems like most people are saying you will get an e-mail only if you've made it. I really hope they just mass-send an e-mail saying "you didn't get selected, thanks for applying" (that would be awesome for my sanity).

With that said, I think it is weird that no one has posted about being selected yet. Someone from SOME province has to have heard something. OR maybe we are the only cool ones who use this forum 8) 8)

Let's get a little conversation going about something other than waiting lol
Howcome each of you want to go to Japan?

I became intrigued with Japan and the culture after visiting my friend then returned to teach conversational English. Both of my adventures weren't long enough. Each area of Japan is truly beautiful and as funny as it may sound, each prefecture seems to have its own personality.

Good-luck everyone :)

I'm also from Toronto and also haven't heard anything. Just thought I'd add my voice to the chorus.

As for my name, I was on the forum last year so if you dive into the archives you'll be able to find it, but I don't want to give my name until after final decisions are announced because my name is rather unique and I don't want my application decision to be impacted by anything I post here.

I'm Pamela, from Victoria, studying Linguistics with a Japanese Studies minor at UVic. I'm hoping to someday be an ESL teacher in Victoria, so JET seems like a good starting point for my career.

I've been compulsively checking my email... Hopefully we'll all hear from them soon!

Heya Victoria friend! I finished my degree in English last year at Uvic! I'm relieved to hear that us West coasters haven't heard anything. Here's to another sleepless night!

I love reading everyones motivations for going! :) As for why I want to go to Japan, I was an exchange student in Gifu-shi in high school, which naturally has propelled my hope to return as an English teacher. I too initially fostered my interest in Japan through Sailormoon & Escaflowne, as well as other anime and manga. While in Japan I really enjoyed learning the language, and found the cultural differences to be fascinating. I can not wait to go back and experience life on the other side (as a teacher, rather than student). Fingers crossed!

Hi everyone! From Toronto here, but currently residing in Los Angeles! I applied for the Jet Programme this year, but no word yet. I graduated from the University of Western with my Bachelor of Education and then went to Japan to work as a Native English Teacher for a few months! However, I got caught in the recent earthquake and was forced to evacuate. Hopefully, I can get a chance to once again return to that awesome country! :D Hope I get to meet some of you during interviews if accepted. Best of luck to you all! :D Ganbarreh minna-san!

Hello Everyone, I'm Monica from Vancouver. I am desperately checking my email this week (I bet most of us are doing the same thing?! =P)
I went on exchange while I was at UVic in 2007. I stayed in Kanagawa Ken for 3 months with two host families. It was a really great experience!!! Love it!!
Really want to go back to Japan and contribute something meaningful. (Studying Japanese at the same time....)

Good Luck to You All. ^o^

Hi everyone! I'm also constantly checking my email and the forums this week. Nerve-wracking, huh? JET has always been a long-term goal for me, but this is my first year actually applying. I live outside Toronto and will (hopefully) be interviewing there. I lived in Japan for one year on exchange through York University, studying at Meiji University in Tokyo. I took Japanese throughout school and graduated with a shiny international degree in biology. I miss Japan and want to go back! I keep having doubts about my application (I kept my essay to one page to be concise, but maybe should have written two?) but I think that's normal. Good luck to everyone!

True... BUT in a way its somewhat of a relief; if others star receiving their letters and my inbox remains empty then I will begin to worry. Although, my email has been checked more in the last few days than last year combined. ;)
