Hi fellow applicants through Vancouver Consulate!
I'm live in Vancouver but I lived in Victoria for a year previously ;)

My name is Zoey and I have a Bachelors in Math from UBC. I was born in southern China so I'm fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese. I studied Japanese and Spanish in high school as well. I've visited Japan for a week previously and had an amazing time :)! That being said, I've also reveled to 13 other countries and they were all great.

Internet HI-FIVE from a fellow Math major (I have mine from SFU)!

Here's hoping the emails are sent out on Monday, and not spread out through the week. But who knows... also, I think only those selected for interviews are contacted. :/

Some say that they contact everyone, and some say only successful applicants are contacted. Can anyone confirm this? :(
Also anyone applying from Quebec?

Just want to give everyone a quick shout of hello! My name is Maggie and I'm applying from Vancouver. I studied English Lit and PoliSci at SFU. =) Good luck. I didn't sleep a wink last night...I half hope it's over soon but a part of me is still too scared.

On the Facebook page it says "You will be notified next week if you have passed the first screening."

Here's what the Canadian JET Coordinator said earlier in this thread:

I knew I was being way too optimistic when I thought I might receive an email today.... :( At least I know I'm not the only one holding my breath for the interview email...

Any of my fellow Vancouver consulates receive an email? Any other Canadian consulates for that matter?

I think we were all spamming refresh on our inbox today :( I'm sure someone will mention it if they got an interview.

I think the Canadian JET coordinator meant that they would be the one to notify the applicants who got an interview, in any province (because by title they take care of Ottawa). In context of the conversation earlier in the thread that's what I got from it, not that they would notify applicant who didn't make it to the interview stage as well. It seems like most people are saying you will get an e-mail only if you've made it. I really hope they just mass-send an e-mail saying "you didn't get selected, thanks for applying" (that would be awesome for my sanity).

With that said, I think it is weird that no one has posted about being selected yet. Someone from SOME province has to have heard something. OR maybe we are the only cool ones who use this forum 8) 8)

Let's get a little conversation going about something other than waiting lol
Howcome each of you want to go to Japan?

Both my friend and I are waiting to hear anything but no email yet (at least not in Vancouver)

I have always been fascinated by Asia and its various cultures. Last year I had a chance to go on an exchange to Taiwan, after I got back I knew I wanted to go back to Asia as soon as possible and I am most interested in visiting Japan. I'm also looking forward to teaching the kids and for them to teach me.

Taiwan? That must've been awesome. How long were you there for? I haven't had the opportunity to travel to Asia yet - although when I was about 4 or 5 my mom took me to Indonesia with her (she was a stewardess) - but that was WAY too long ago.

I started loving Japan through its car culture, and ended up loving everything else as well. Not until I heard of JET did it actually dawn on me that living in Japan could be a definite reality, and I could stop dreaming about it.
I never really considered teaching English because I was caught up in my own career aspirations - but I remember how awesome I felt when I no longer had to be in esl - and how nice it was to be able to communicate in English. I'd love to do that for someone else!

Hi everyone.

My name is Emily and I've applied from Toronto (so far I think I've seen one other person mentioned Toronto in this thread..Oh so lonely?). I figured I'd finally join and speak since I've just been lurking to see if anyone has gotten an interview email yet. Like everyone else here, I've been sitting nervously since yesterday.

I've always been interested in Japanese culture and language since I was a little girl (Come on, Pokemon was the definition of childhood). Despite my sister hoping it'd be a phase I would grow out of it did not happan (haha!). I'm currently taking 3rd year Japanese at McMaster and loving it. Japanese has always been my favourite course and I was glad I finally got a chance to formally learn the language.

Other than that, I love video games (console and PC) and cosplay (Any other cosplayers here?).

Good luck everyone and I hope we'll hear back soon!!!
