I interviewed two years ago and got alternate status! Dunno what that says about me. Half a weirdo?! Hahaha. Hopefully I acquitted myself better this time around, but only time will tell. :)

Do JET ever give an indication of how many positions are available before the interviews? I know the site says 41 applicants were sent over last year, but I assume that number fluctuates from year to year depending on how many current ALTs reapply and the actual demand for ALTs.

Also, does anyone have any idea of how many people were interviewed on Wednesday? The computer programmer in me wants to crunch numbers. :D

I assume you didn't get the position after you got that Alternate status, but did you reapply last year or take a year out from applying?

This has been running through my mind so much since Wed! This could be completely wrong but I estimated at roughly 100 called for interview.

I got this by working out how many hours they were interviewing for (approx 8hrs) and each interview lasting roughly 30 mins (including discussion time) with 7 interview rooms- then I took away no shows at 10% (I got bumped up because of a no show & I heard of a good few who were the same)

:?: :?: :?:

Does that sound reasonable or am I completely off the mark? :) As for the amount of people accepted I'm going on between 35-45 as this seems to be the trend looking on the webby.

Lunches and breaks too- brings it down closer to about 80-90..

There seemed to be a break before my interview, called me in about 30 minutes early and had no idea there was supposed to be someone else first.

No mine was at 10 in the morning! Was hell getting through Dublin early morning traffic to be remotely on time. I did have mine downstairs though- did you have two women (one japanese and one irish) and one man?

That was about the number I had figured too. Huzzah for useless hypothesising! :D

Who else applied for the April departures? I was surprised at the amount of people I spoke to at the interviews that said they were going for the early positions.

Are the April departure numbers separate from the July departure? I wonder whether they are more likely to accept you if you go for the April departures, I got an email after my interview confirmation asking if I was available for early departure...? Did anyone else get anything like this?

Same thing, think it was them- the poker face you mentioned sounded exactly like them. God it was offputting! I can't see it hurting your chances, don't know if it'd up your chances. Didn't get an e-mail, but they asked me at the end of the interview? Did they do that to you?

Yeah she was really scary- didn't smile once and I was beaming like an idiot at her haha. They didn't ask me at the end- I think probably because I mentioned that I had just finished my January exams so they knew I'm still in college. Did you speak to many people on the day? I only spoke to 2 and it was briefly.

BTW rozzer can you speak any Japanese? I was speaking to a guy and he said he could hear the panel speaking about him prior to his interview and he said they were laughing at his application! :?

You don't sound as bummed out now about the interview as you did on the day. Maybe it wasn't as bad as you imagined?

Hey bigwig, I didn't get asked anything about teaching actually- other than what I would teach about Ireland and Irish culture. The only other thing about teaching was about what I would do if the JTE made a mistake in class. Did you say on your application if you had TEFL/CELTA or previous teaching experience?
