Although I can't really enlighten you on the likelihood of you receiving your placement request, I can tell you that the prefecture, in general, does not take a huge amount of British JETs because of its sister state links to Michigan in the USA. Last year, out of all the new British JETs, I was the only one to be placed in Shiga prefecture. However, there are some of us here, and fingers crossed you'll get your placement, as it's a great area to live in. If you have any questions about the prefecture or what it's like being a JET here, please send me a private message.

Thanks so much for the information, even though it's probably not good news about the lack of British JETs placed there.
You are really lucky! The only British JET in Shiga? I hope to repeat your success this year! :D
If i'm lucky enough, i'll definitely contact you with lots of questions.
Hope you're having a great time being over there. Thanks again.

In total there are around four British JETs, which unfortunately (and it really is unfortunate) is still very low.
However, no-one knows the mysteries of the selection process so don't give up hope. Just don't be too disappointed if you're not given your first preference as a matter of course, as it's not cut and dry. Shiga was a totally random placement for me.

Feel free to contact me pending your placement, and I'd be happy to answer any questions.

Well, apparently the Aussies got their placements today, so maybe we'll be hearing over the next few hours?
