My teacher notified me last night that she wrote my reference letter and was shipping it out today so I'm also just waiting for the application. If its not up tomorrow then it most definitely will be up next week. I'm hoping on Monday, but granted I've seemingly been jinxing myself on my application predictions.

I went by the actual online application (I made an account last year to see what the application looked like to prepare for this year) and there were some updates made but its still down and all the major information still pertains to last year's program. It'd be amazing if it went live tomorrow

That was some smart thinking on your part. Wish I had known a year ago I was gonna apply this year so I could have done the same, or at least helped my fiance go through his application when he applied last year so I'd have a better idea of what's in the application.

I'm sure you're right about it going live early next week, though tomorrow would be nice so I could use the whole weekend to really go over it.

Have you put any thought about your placement requests? I know a lot the people at ithinkimlost keep being negative about it by telling everyone that we shouldn't put too much time and research into our placement requests since in all likelihood we won't get our top requests, but I still think it's smart to give your requests some thought. Honestly, I don't know what's so wrong about hoping you get placed in a specific location...

There was a vlogger who had said that taking an application and using it as practice would be great for preparing JET when it was time to apply. It helped in seeing what I was lacking and where I needed to boost up. I also was able to print it without submitting it as reference in case the application was taken off.

miami_coordinator mentioned that it was going to be up next week and theJET facebook said that too. If its not then I'm really going to go insane, lol.

I have actually. I really care about where I'm going so I put a lot of thought into it. I don't think its wrong for people to concern themselves over their placement despite the whole " it doesn't matter ". And, actually, according to this map that was posted on these forums earlier this year a lot of JETs got their preferred placements. It doesn't hurt to try.

I care about my placement, but yet don't care. There are specific places I would love to go. At the same time I think there are places I would love being at that I don't know about. Honestly I just don't want some where with lots of snow.

I completely agree with you. Even if there's a chance you won't get placed there, it doesn't hurt to put the extra thought into where you would like to go. And also, in the interview, if they ask you about your placement requests you'd already have good reasons to back up why you want to be placed where you chose.

I kind of feel the same way you do. There are 2 places that I really want to be placed, mostly because of people I know who currently live those two very different locations, but any where I go I would be fine with.

If you don't want to be where there's snow, then you'll definitely do not want to be placed in my number one choice (Sapporo/Hokkaido), lol.

I've only seen real snow once, and that was for a week during vacation. Even in the US I do not really want to live some where with snow. However if I do get a snowy place I may end up liking it. Who knows?

Are you from a warm part of the States? The city I live in doesn't get a lot of snow days during the winter, at least, it doesn't really stick to the ground. Maybe a few days of snow out the whole winter season if we're lucky; usually it's just cold and rainy. I'm not really a fan of cold weather unless there's snow involved, then I find the cold worth it.

Sapporo is my city's sister city, and I've heard the atmosphere and weather are very similar (except there is way more snow in Sapporo). So, of the cold places to go, Sapporo would probably be a place I'm more comfortable in.

Anyway, it sounds like you're keeping a very open mind about your potential placement. It seems like you'd be willing to adapt to wherever you'd end up, which is always a good thing. :)

Yes I'm from a very hot and humid state. In fact I'm only minutes away from the Gulf of Mexico.

I know some of my high school friends moved up north and rather like the snow. One of my friends moved way up to northern US and had depression that first winter. She wasn't used to snow or that cold. However after that first winter she now loves the snow.

I went from Florida heat to below 0 temperatures when I lived out in Minnesota for a winter. It was a shock... I have never seen snow before and here I got dumped mounds of it. Florida cold is different than cold in the north. Our cold is wet and is more miserable... the cold in Minnesota wasn't bad... it was dry. You simply had to be careful and stay protected.

I don't think I would like living in Hokkaido or Aomori or anywhere that far north despite that. I'm just not used to that constant cold :( At least in here in FL it comes and goes. Another thing is the lack of daylight in the winter... That's depressing.

I'm sure that's true merkypie. I wouldn't be able to handle constant cold or lack of daylight. I've had family members live in Alaska. We went and visited them during the summer when there is always light. I couldn't handle that. Just threw my internal system for a loop. I would hate to imagine the opposite with nothing but night all the time. Yet it would be cool to see the northern lights.

It's good to see that some people want to go to the colder areas. I'm from a colder part of the US. We get like six months of winter with tons of snow. December through February, it's common to have several weeks of temperatures below zero without a break, and then there's the wind... Though, June through August we'll often be 95+.

I'd like to get away from the cold. It does get depressing, even if you're used to it. TS Eliot said April is the cruelest month. Well, he never lived in the Midwest in February.

I know some people who've lived in Hokkaido and they say the winter is a lot nicer there. So, I guess I'd be happy with the weather anywhere in Japan.

Definitely something worth seeing. Sometimes it's just a faint glow, and other times it's like the entire sky is pulsing in waves of green and red. Ethereal and spectacular.

I'd prefer not to end up in Hokkaido because I can get pretty miserable in the cold. However, I do think that the warm weather clothes they sell there would be a lot better than where I'm from. Alabama kind of freaks out in winter, rushing to the stores to buy bread and milk if there is an inch of snow predicted.

Just as long as there's four seasons, I would not mind. We don't get four seasons in Florida, especially SoFlo. It's more of Summer, Summer, Almost Summer, Summer. If I can see changing leaves in the fall, snow in the winter (not snowed out), flowers blossoming in the spring, and the unbearable heats of the summer then that'd be perfect.

That's why I'm aiming for Kinki XD (among other reasons)

So, I was wrong...I had said I am Kristen |Chicago | Applying, but I'm really Kristen | Nashville | Applying. Would you please change me on the list?

I got confused because my school was in the Chicago region so that's where my friends applied from, but I live in the Nashville region.
