Congrats guys!

Hey merkypie,

Next time you update this list, can you change my status to alternate (it currently says shortlisted)? I don't want it to mess up you chart!

Agreed! I personally won't be back in town until after graduation, but maybe then too? :) Congrats!

Yay! It looks like the majority of the D.C. waiting posters got shortlisted!

I won't be back in the D.C. area until after graduation either. My school graduates early, May 4, but I won't move out of my apartment until mid May. So maybe sometime toward the end of May. Not sure when all the orientation type meetings start going on at the embassy, but we can definitely get together then too! :D

Wah, still kind of in disbelief after waiting so long for this news and planning for JET for much much longer. I have one more massive paper to finish and then I think it will official sink in that this real!

Ugh, I just broke the news to my gf. That was not fun. But it's all finally decided, and it feels like a tremendous amount of weight has come off my shoulders. Anyone else in a similar situation?

I would love to meet up with the other DC applicants, but sadly I am away this weekend and I leave the district in early May. But the weekend after this one would work great if anyone else is available and interested!

Also, I saw the Japanese Ambassador at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage tonight. I was starting to get a little concerned about the coordination at the embassy, but between that and the festival over the weekend it looks like they just had their hands really full. I feel bad for ever doubting them now, haha. :P

While it would be awesome to celebrate now, I think most people are tied up with school obligations, especially for those of us who are not directly in the DC area.

Might I suggest we wait to get together until later in May?

Breaking the news to my boyfriend that I was planning on applying was much, much worse for me. It actually caused quite the fight and a long period of not speaking to each other :/ However, when I actually did apply and he was there through the whole process I think he realized how much this means to me and witnessed the work I put into it. He was just as excited as me when I got an interview, but I know there was some thoughts maybe prayers on his side that I wouldn't make it all the way. He is really excited for me at the moment, but I know it is going to be rough when it gets down to me actually leaving. We survived my year studying abroad so I think we will be okay. In this instance I feel like I am still young and this is me being selfish and focusing on my dreams for now to build a future for myself. Sorry for the long post and I think there is a thread for relationship stuff, but you aren't alone in the relationship situation.

Sigh, yes it was quite a dramatic night talking to my bf about it. He always kind of assumed I would get it, and is happy for me but just says he's really not looking forward to it and wishes he could go with me. He has 1 year left at school. We both agreed that we shouldn't worry/dread it and just do our best, we don't know what the future holds but we're really close to each other and willing to try. People have done it before so that gives me hope.

My sister is getting married on August 4th, and Group A leaves on July 28th. She is not happy with me, but my parents both agreed that I cannot give up this opportunity just because I'll be missing one big day. I also assume there will be several other events that I will miss over the year (or more) that will be regrettable, but it comes with the job.
