To drive or to take the Metro....hmmm enough decisions for one night. To Bed!

Hey, I'll be there too--11:10 in DC on the 23rd!

I'm taking the Metro...I'm horrible at parking and I freak out in traffic.

Driving in DC is hellish! All those traffic circles and one-way streets and Northwest Southwest Eastwest...

And for us New Yorkers, while I think that sending out letters is super classy and befits the consulate's Park Avenue address, I just want to know my interview date/time already!! :P

Also, as a suggestion, maybe reading the General Information Handbook would be good interview prep?

Just curious... which placements did you all request? I requested an "urban" placement in Fukuoka, Kobe, or Okayama.

I requested Shuto-ken (not Tokyo itself, though). Honestly I don't really care all that much where they put me as long as it's not Hokkaido.

Suburban placement around Kansai or Hokuriku. I live in the boondocks already so it won't be anything shocking if I do end up in the inaka.

You mean I can't bring my museum-quality collection of Neolithic erotic stone carvings?

Oh and Woohoo on 100 pages everybody! (I guess we are either really into this whole JET thing or have way too much time on our hands)

It seems like I'll be seeing you there. Good luck! =)

Inaka for me. I live in a small town already. Already spent time in some of the cities and was hoping for a change of pace. Plus I thought it might bump my score. =)

I put Nakano-ku and Chiba-shi, but only because I'm familiar with them. I honestly don't mind being placed anywhere - I just wanna be in Japan!

I also sent my application before reading on the forums that JETs are verrrrrrry rarely placed near Tokyo at all. :P

Sadly, I am fairly certain no one gets placed in Tokyo (city, anyway). The people who do get placed in Tokyo prefecture end up being on the outlying islands.

I have heard of plenty of JETs being sent to Chiba, which is really where I would like to be. I like being close enough to visit major cities easily without having to live in them. :P

Ooh really?! :D That's my preference too :) Big cities are nice to visit, but maybe not so much to live in.

Preferably, I'd like to be placed in a mid-sized city (anywhere from 100,000 to 500,000 people). Big enough to have the opportunities of a city yet small enough to be walkable and manageable.

People in Japan have a very different perception of what rural and urban mean. Japan is a lot more urbanized than the USA, so even the city of 800,000 that I lived in during high school was considered "inaka" by its inhabitants. So we'll see!
